Hey guys, it's Sara with extremeterrain.com. And today, we have a review and install of the Projector Headlights with Black Housings and Clear Lenses, fitting your '16 and newer Toyota Tacoma without the LED Daytime Running Light. These are perfect for the Tacoma owner who's looking for an OE-style replacement headlight that features a plug-and-play install but wants to add some black styling as well. These black headlights feature an OE-style replacement design, meaning they're styled after your factory headlights. They utilize all of your factory bulbs for ease of install. They are constructed from clear lenses with ABS black plastic housings and are DOT and SAE compliant, meaning they're legal for on-road use. So, as far as price goes, these headlights come in at around $350 which is on the lower end price-wise when compared to other options. And for your money, you're getting a completed plug-and-play headlight that features some black styling for a more modern look. And as far as the install goes, I'm giving this one a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. They do feature a direct bolt-up and plug-and-play install with no wiring required and can be done within one hour. So, with that said, let's check out the install. For this install, we used an impact gun but a regular ratchet will work just fine. You may also need trim panel removal tool or a flat-head screwdriver, a pop clip removal tool, 10-millimeter socket, and you may want a small extension. All right. So the first step in our uninstall with the hood popped, we're gonna grab a pop clip removal tool and remove the small pop clip right on the inside of the headlight. Repeat that on the other side at the corner of your other headlight. And next up, we'll remove the two 10-millimeter bolts holding on our grille. Now, next up, if your truck is equipped with this wiring harness that goes to the grille, we're gonna need to disconnect that and remove any pop clips that are hanging out behind. Now, what you can do is go underneath with a pop clip of tool or flat-head or you can grab a pair of needlenose pliers and just squeeze that and pull it through. And now what you can do is disconnect this connector here. Press down on the tab underneath and pull back to remove it. Now that all the bolts are removed, we can remove the grille. Pull up on these two plastic brackets up top, and then at the top and bottom, go ahead and pull straight back towards you to release the grille.Next up, what we're gonna do is remove a pop clip right here holding on the bottom of the headlight. And what we're gonna do is remove the pop clip right next to it just to give ourselves a little bit more room on the bumper. Now we're in the wheel well area and what we're gonna do is see if we can pull back our fender flare and bumper to give our headlight a little more room to be removed. First thing we're gonna do is remove this clip. Now, we just have to get it loose, so you should be able to do a quarter turn here, and then pop it backwards to release it off the bumper. Over right above it is a 10-millimeter. Go ahead and grab your 10-millimeter socket and get it removed. Now what we can do is pull back on this fender, and all we need to do is release the clips up to the bumper portion so we can pull back on the bumper. Now we can see a small plastic retaining clip that's holding on the bumper, go ahead and pop that off, and then pull back to release the bumper. You may need the assistance of a trim tool to release it the rest of the way.Now what we're gonna do is pull the bumper down enough to reveal this bolt that holds on both the bumper clip and part of the headlight. What you're gonna do is grab a 10-millimeter socket and get this removed. Now we are also gonna remove this plastic piece on the inside of the headlight to give ourselves a little bit more room. There is a pop clip right on the inside here. Go ahead and get that removed. And then there's also a pop clip here that you can release by pulling backwards. Go ahead and pull backwards to release the rest of them, and then twist to remove this piece. Now you can remove the two 10-millimeter bolts at the top of your headlight. Then once the bolts are removed, you need to release these two brackets. You can do it by hand or you can use a trim tool to just go right underneath and twist to release. Now that you have both of those released, go ahead and pull down on your headlight. You may have to wiggle the bumper a bit to get it passed. And then by sliding it in towards the grille area, you should be able to remove it. Now you can see all the connectors at the back of the headlight, we need to remove all of these. Go ahead and pinch the tabs to pull back and remove. And finally, don't forget the connector at the corner, press down, and pull back to release. Now that we have our factory headlight removed, we do need to transfer over each of these bulbs and sockets to our new headlight. Go ahead and twist them counter-clockwise to remove. Just make sure you're keeping track of each one and where they go in relation to the new headlight. Now we can get them installed in the new headlight. Just go ahead and line up the tabs in the openings and twist them clockwise back into place. Now, try to be careful that you don't touch the bulb, that's why I'm wearing gloves. The oils from your fingers can decrease the life of the bulb, so just keep that in mind. Again, we're just lining up these tabs around the edges with the openings right here. And then once we have it lined up, twisting it clockwise in place to seat it. Each one of the tabs are slightly different but the concept is the same. So, once they're lined up, twist them in place. And now that we have all the bulbs installed in the new headlight, we can install the factory connectors. Go ahead and line them up and then press them in place until they click. With all the connectors attached, go ahead and line up the headlight back on your truck.Again, it might be easier to come from this way and go into the side. Make sure this piece down here is properly lined up and press it into place and also line up both of the brackets up top. Now we can line up the 10-millimeter bolts that goes in behind your fender using the 10-millimeter socket to help get it lined up. And once it is properly in line, go ahead and get it threaded through that fender into the headlight. And then with your 10-millimeter socket, go ahead and tighten it down. Now that the bolt is tight, you can go ahead and line up your bumper back in place and get it properly seated. Next up, line up that fender flare and press that back in as well. Now, in the wheel well, you can reinstall that 10-millimeter bolt. And with your 10-millimeter socket, tighten it down. Also, line up this clip and clamp it back in place, and then turn it a quarter turn to get it seated. Now we can replace the two pop clips that we pulled out of the bumper. Now we can replace this plastic air diverter, go ahead and get it lined back up. Once the bottom section is in place, clip back in the top sections and replace this pop clip. Now you can replace the two factory bolts in the top of the headlight. And with your 10-millimeter socket, tighten it down. All right. Now that we have our factory headlight uninstalled from our truck, we can check it out side by side with our new headlight here. Now, as you guys can see the design of these headlights are very similar to one another. Our new headlight features a projector-style low beam and reflective high beam similar to the factory, but the biggest difference here is gonna be that black surround. These are gonna be an OE-style replacement headlight but with that black styling, a nice visual upgrade to your front end. So, with that said, let's go ahead and finish up our install. All right. So you wanna repeat all of those steps to install your passenger headlight. And once you've done that we can get the grille installed. Go ahead and line up all the tabs on the bottom, as well as the two large plastic tabs on each side. Then press it into place, now we can get it bolted down. Grab the factory bolts and get them threaded in and the top of your grille. Make sure the brackets are over top of those plastic pieces. Once you thread them in, grab a 10-millimeter socket and tighten it down. Keep in mind you are going into plastic, so if you're using an impact gun like we are, just make sure not to overtighten.Make sure you install the pop clips in the corner of the headlights. And finally, don't forget to plug back in the sensor in your grille. And if you did remove that pop clip, pop that back in as well. All right. So that is gonna do it for the review and install these headlights. And remember for all things Tacoma, keep it at extremeterrain.com.
