Jake: Jake here for Extreme Terrain. And today I'm taking a look at this LED third brake light, with the smoke lens, for 2007 to 2021 Tundras. If you're looking for an easy way to upgrade your third brake light, whether it's for looks, safety, or for the sake of replacing your original one, then this unit is going to appeal to you. It features this stealthy smoked lens, OEM grade construction, and some other cool features that really make this an excellent option. A third brake light is a necessary safety item, but that doesn't mean that it has to be boring. With this dark smoke lens and the bright LED lights, this one goes beyond just looking good. So the intersection here of the light functions, as the brake light itself, lights up this really bright red when you step on the brakes. It's definitely not going to be missed by other motorists out there on the road. Now, the outer portions of the light here also function as bed lights, with more super bright white LED. So you're able to retain that function, and you have some enhanced lighting in the back as well for hauling stuff in the dark. You can also have all three sections lit up at the same time. Now, this is a full LED setup, meaning that there are no incandescent bulbs to worry about here. And that means that this is going to have a long life and you're not going to have to stress over replacing bulbs. The housing is constructed from OEM grade plastic, and you've got some nice seals on the back here to keep the dirt and moisture out. Plus, you have that smoked polycarbonate lens on the outside. Now, polycarbonate is super strong and should look good for a long time to come. And since this one has that smoke color as well, makes it a bit less noticeable, lending to a more stealthy look than your factory light. It's also designed to complement the styling of your truck, so it's going to blend in nicely and be a cool visual addition. And if you've got a darker paint color on your truck, it's going to blend in well too. Pricing for this will come in towards the top of the market, at around $225. However, you are getting a good quality product that's going to increase your visibility, while also looking good. Plus you've got the functionality of that bed light too. So if you're on the hunt for this kind of upgrade, it is well worth a look.Installation will come in at a one out of three on our difficulty meter. And it should only take you about an hour to complete. Now, while this is a plug and play install as far as the light itself goes, there's no wiring or cutting needed, you are going to need to pull down part of the headliner in the rear to access these bolts that hold the assembly in. It's by no means a hard job, just one that's going to take you a little bit of time. And to show you what's involved, let's head on over to the install bay.Man: Tools used for this install, Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, 10-millimeter socket, and quarter-inch drive ratchet. Hey, guys, I'm going to show you how to install our LED third brake light here on our '18 Tundra. So let's get started. All right, so the first thing we're going to do is, I'm going to lower down our rear back window here and get that down, so we can get to our headliner. I'm going to drop the tailgate, lower the back window down, get up in there. I'm going to pull the headliner down just enough that I can get behind it to get the two 10-millimeter bolts out. And then we should be able to pour a third brake light right out. So now that I'm up on top here, what we're going to do first is, behind here, there's two 10-millimeters. We've got four screws here we're going to remove after we get the two 10-millimeters out. We'll pull that out, there's a little clip here we got to lift up. Once we grab that, we'll be able to pull this and remove this right out of the way.So now what I'm going to do is just take my fingers, I want to get up in here, and you're going to hear the headliner pop down just like that. It's popping out of the clips. I'm going to come over here and get this one out. There we go. And that's going to give me enough room to put my hand up in here. And you're going to feel there's one here. So we're going right about here, you're going to be able to feel with your finger, there's a hole and then you're going to feel the nut. And then the same on this side, there's another nut. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take my 10-millimeter or my quarter inch drive ratchet here, and I'm going to get up inside here. I'm just going to get it on. Right there it is. And I'm going to loosen this up. I'm going to get it pretty loose. And I'm just going to go in and then take the nut off with my fingers, spin it off. And we're going to reuse these nuts on our new lights. So you're going to want to make sure you hold on to them. It's a pretty long stud, so it takes a little bit to get it off. There's one.I'm going to come over on this side and do the same thing. Get up inside there. Now I'll take it off the rest of the way with my fingers. So now we got our two 10-millimeters in the back. I'm going to take these four Phillips heads off here because inside here, there is a little tab that you're going to want to push down on or pull up on, I should say. That way you can pull this right off. Sometimes they're stuck on here pretty good from the factory. I'm going to remove this one, and remove this cover, which also gives you access to the lights. Now, there's a little tab right here. I'm going to take a Phillips or a flat screwdriver, sorry. And I'm going to pull up, just like that. And t's going to give us access to our harness back here, which I'm just going to pop the clip off and pull it off of this tab here, just like that. And that'll be our removal of our third brake light. So now we have our new third brake light. Now what I'm going to do first is we're going to hook our electrical connection up here. I'm just going to plug this in, just like that. I'm going to tuck this up inside. Now we're going to take our third brake light. You're going to want to make sure you have the rubber piece up top here, so it sits in its place like that. I just want to make sure because it'll give it a seal up top, and we'll be able to push it in. And once we get it in place like that, we're going to take our two 10-millimeters that we took off before, so I'm going to start the 10-millimeter on this side, same on this side. And then I'm going to grab my 10-millimeter ratchet here and tighten this down. All right, I'm going to do the same on this side. Now we have those tight. What I'm going to do then is just reach up under here, push our headliner back up in place. You can hear a clip. Then we'll put our window back up. And that'll wrap up this install. That wraps up this review and install of our LED third brake light smoked, for '07 to '21 Tundras. Thanks for watching. And for all things Tundra, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
