Merideth: Hey, guys. So, today we're checking out the Cold-Case Radiators Aluminum Performance Radiator, fitting all 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers. Now, this will be a great pick if you're looking to increase your cooling capacity with a larger and more durable radiator if you're currently having cooling issues with your factory one. Now, this will give you some peace of mind knowing that you have a reliable cooling system inside your JK, considering the infamous JK heat soak, especially if you're spending a lot of time out on the trail and want to keep your temps down. Now, this rad will also just be a great choice if you need to do some maintenance to your cooling system, and you would rather take the extra precautions to upgrade to a performance option compared to a factory-style replacement. This will feature an oversized two-row construction, which will increase the flow overall increasing the capacity and optimizing your cooling. Now, the rad will also have 16 corrugated fins per inch for better thermal transfer, as well as keeping temps down for longer periods of time. When it comes to the build, this will have a fully aluminum construction, including the end tanks. Now, the end tanks will also be 100% TIG-welded to be able to handle more pressure and resist cracking or leaking like the factory plastic ones. Now, the radiator will also have a factory-style fit, so you won't have to do any modification in order to drop this into place, making this pretty straightforward when it comes to the fitment.Getting into prices will come in at roughly $400, putting this at a middle-of-the-road option. Now, when it comes to comparing this to other choices, this will have a direct fit and will have a two-row design compared to other smaller or more OE style choices. On the other hand, some more expensive systems may come with a larger capacity or have small differences, including the hardware or the components that is included in the kit as where this just comes with the rad itself. Now, I think if you're looking for a middle-of-the-road, high-performance rad for your Jeep to increase the cooling capacity without completely breaking the bank, then this is gonna be a great choice. When it comes to the install, this will be a tougher two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, so I would recommend a little bit of experience when tackling this job. Now, you'll also need about two hours' worth of your time and some extra tools on hand. Now speaking of the install, one of our customers here has installed this on their Jeep and is gonna walk you through the process for yours step by step. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me, let's go ahead and get into the install.Man: To tackle this project, you'll need a body panel pry tool, a small screwdriver, an 8-millimeter nut driver, an 8 and a 10-millimeter wrench, an 8 and a 10-millimeter socket with a ratchet and 2-inch extension, a pair of Channellock pliers, and a pair of slip-joint pliers. You'll need a funnel, a container to drain the coolant into, an impact driver is not needed, but it does speed things up a bit. And then you also need something to cut a little bit off of the radiator shroud to clearance around the new radiator fill neck. I use this cut-off tool and a file. So, first, what you wanna do is you wanna drain the fluid from the radiator. You wanna find this little nipple right here. It's at the front of the radiator on the passenger's side. What I like to do is take a piece of hose and put it on the nipple of that outlet, so it's coming down, and then run that hose into a bucket. Then grab yourself a pair of pliers. And on the front of that outlet, there's a knob. You wanna grab that knob and spin it counterclockwise till the fluid starts coming down the hose. I'm gonna wait until it just drains. Then next, I'm gonna pop off the front grille. I'm gonna do that by popping off these six black plastic retainers. Do that simply by prying up the center of it with a screwdriver, and then popping the whole thing out. Go ahead and do that to all six. Go ahead and set those clips aside. Next, you want to grab the bottom of the grille and give it a sharp tug to pop the clips that clip into the front of the cross member there. And my winch kind of gets in the way but yours might come off a little easier. Go ahead and undo your turn single bulbs at the harness first by pulling out the red retaining clip and squeezing right by that clip and pulling out the plug. Now that the grille cover is out of the way, you wanna remove this plastic shroud on top of the radiator. It's held in place by four plastic rivets. Go ahead and grab a body panel tool, slide it underneath the shroud and work it up and down until the rivet comes out, and then do the next. Next, you wanna remove the top radiator hose. Grab yourself a pair of Channellocks, grab onto the clamp, open it up, work it back and forth until it comes off. A little bit of fluid might spill out. I'm gonna set that aside. Now, go ahead and take off the reservoir tank. Start by unplugging the hose here at the filler cap. There's two clips right here that hold it in, and then grab the tank, lift it up slightly out, turn it, pick it up and out and set it aside. All right. Next, you wanna grab the lower radiator hose, which is this guy right here. You wanna squeeze it and work it up and down and get the rest of the fluid out from the radiator so it doesn't make a huge mess. Next, you wanna go ahead and grab your clamp. Go ahead and grab the hose and work it off the radiator. While you're here, go ahead and unplug the fan. Set that plug aside. All right. So, next, to make things easier, I'm gonna take off the air box. Start by undoing the hose clamp that holds the inlet on and take that off, and pop the four clips that hold the top of the box on. I'm going to take this hose off, take the filter out, and go ahead and grab the box. Take it back and forth pulling up. It pops right out.So, next, we're gonna unbolt the condenser from the radiator. There's four bolts. There's one right here, there's one behind this plastic air shield. It's right up here. There's one on the upper passenger's side of this canister, and there's one directly below the canister. We're gonna remove those with an 8-millimeter wrench. You can also use a ratchet. That condenser should be loose. Now, on the bottom of the radiator, there's four plastic rivets holding on the shroud. Go ahead and grab your body panel tool and work those off. There's also two more upfront, one here and one here. Go ahead and take those off as well. You can go ahead and leave that right where it is.Next, we're gonna unbolt the radiator. There's two bolts holding it on. There's one right here right underneath the fill spigot, and there's one right here right next to this outlet. I'm gonna use a 10-millimeter socket and ratchet and undo those. So, now that you can get the radiator out a little bit, there's two more plastic rivets you gotta undo. There's one right here on the passenger's side right beneath the inlet to the radiator. Pop that one loose. There's another one. If you follow this condenser line right here, follow it up, it's right there. Go ahead and pop that one loose too. Now that you have everything disconnected from the radiator, you can go ahead and lift the radiator out of the way by leaning it back slightly, picking it up, and just working it out until everything comes out. Be careful, it will spill some more fluid, try not to get it on your paint. Go ahead and set the radiator up in a bucket to finish draining it.All right. So, next, we're gonna take off the two fan bolts. There's one here and one right here. They require an 8-millimeter socket, I'm gonna go ahead and use my driver. You take the two bolts off, lift it up. I pull it out towards the top, it comes right off. Slide it back into these tabs. Now, your new hardware kit. You wanna use those to mount your fan. Now, for all these bolts, they're 10-millimeter. Now, before you get rid of your old radiator, you wanna take these rubber grommets off. Now, you wanna take those grommets off your old radiator and put it on the new mounts on the new radiator. On the old radiator, we're also gonna need these mount cushions. Go ahead and pull those off. There's two of them. Now, these mount cushions, go ahead and slide onto these mount posts. Now you're ready to install the new radiator. And we're gonna put in the new radiator. Before you do, make sure that your condenser is up and out of the way. It won't fall on your way. Just go ahead and take a new radiator and slide it in. Grab your radiator bolts, put them through the grommet and into the screw hole, tighten them down. Now you can bolt on your condenser with the four new bolts that came with the radiator. Again, these are 10-millimeter. Now, with this top bolt, there's an air shield. You wanna go ahead and make sure you get that bolted to the condenser as well. There's an air shield on this side as well, be sure to bolt that down. Next, you're gonna install the radiator reservoir tank. Find the mounting holes on the stock fan, slide the radiator reservoir tank on, run the hose through the clips, and plug it back in keeping it the ball. So, next, we're gonna install the radiator shroud. But to do so for it to fit, we need to trim right here so it goes around the radiator fill. So, after you trim the shroud, the plastic rivet should line up with holes on top of the stock fan, and just simply press them into place. Okay. Next, we're gonna install the radiator grille cover. Just put it on. Find the clips up with the holes, press the clips at the bottom into the hoops, and don't forget to plug in your turn signals. Next, grab your six plastic rivets and secure the top of the grille cover. Next, we're gonna install the airbox. Align these pins up with these holes and press down. We have everything lined up. Reinstall your filter and the top of the air box. And press on the clips. There's four of them. Attach this hose and the intake hose. And then fasten the intake hose clamp. Also while you're here, find the fan wiring harness and plug it back into the fan. Now, moving back to the bottom of the car, this shroud at the bottom of the radiator, we're gonna push those pins back in. There's three holes at the bottom of the stock fan. Just push those rivets back in those holes. And then there's two up front at the frame. Go ahead and grab your Channellocks and reattach the upper radiator hose. Next, attach the lower radiator hose. Now, all that's left is to fill it with fluid. Take it for a test drive, and that's it. You just replaced the radiator.Merideth: So, that is going to wrap it up for my review and the install of the Cold-Case Radiators Aluminum Performance Radiator, fitting all 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers. And for all things Jeep, remember to keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
