Hey, what's up, guys? I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain and today I'm here with the Rough Country Dual Steering Stabilizer Setup fitting your 1987 to 1995 Wrangler YJ. This is for those of you that are looking to upgrade or replace that old worn out steering stabilizer. Whether your steering stabilizer is bent, broken or plain blown out, you should be checking out this dual setup. So with this kit you're getting the benefit and dampening effect of two steering stabilizers which is really going to greatly reduce bump steer helping save those tie rod ends, ball joints and also it is a perfect upgrade for those of you that are running larger tires and really like to rip through those trails. Now one thing I would like to mention is this system is specifically designed for the factory steering. So if you have an aftermarket drag link, it may or may not work for you. This whole system is completely bolt-on consisting of brackets, brand new hardware, everything you need to install. It is very reasonably priced on the site for a dual setup at right around $110. Now as far as installation goes, I'm gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter as you can get this thing installed in under 30 minutes just using basic hand tools. Now with that being said, let's hop into the install.Tools we used for this install: 3/8 drive impact, hammer, Channellocks, 1/2 inch socket, 14 millimeter socket, 19 millimeter socket, socket extension, 19 millimeter wrench, 14 millimeter wrench. This is a relatively easy system to install as far as whether everything goes correctly. We have a bracket that we need to mount on our drag link and we also have a bracket that's gonna go up here on the sway bar. So the first thing we need to do is take off our stock steering stabilizer. We're gonna pull this whole setup off. You can do this on the ground or you can do it in the air. We have a nut to take off over here and a bolt to take off over here so we're gonna start with a 19 millimeter socket and get that setup off.So after that, you're gonna put this nut back on. You're gonna smack this with a hammer. Now these studs are pretty hard to get out so you might have to smack this a lot. Don't worry. It's not just you. Once you get that out, gonna take that nut back off. Pull that all the way out and then we'll take out this bolt over here. So we're gonna use that same 19 to take this bolt out. After that, we can pull this whole assembly out.All right, so with all of these pieces on the table, the old steering stabilizer, the new setup, I just wanna take a moment before we get this thing installed into the Jeep, kinda just go over all of the parts that you're getting with this kit and how this system works and exactly what steering stabilizers do. Now steering stabilizers are a 50-50 valve hydraulic shock. Unlike a normal shock which where you cut the tension of the strap that's holding them, they're going to extend. This has positive resistance on both sides. So the basic point of a steering stabilizer is to reduce bump steer. As you're hitting bumps in the road, the axle is traveling up and down. Since your steering is connected both to the steering Pitman arm and to the passenger side of the axle, once your axle moves up, it wants to push the steering to the side. What the steering stabilizer does is it stops that movement or reduces that movement. This is not a fix for death wobble. If you had a wobble or a death wobble, that is worn out components. That is not a steering stabilizer. A brand new one is going to mask that issue until it wears out and then you're buying another steering stabilizer to replace that worn out one. This is a really good upgrade if you have a bent, broken or just worn out leaking steering stabilizer setup. The purpose of a dual setup is for larger tires. You run a lift, you run larger tires, you're magnifying the bump steer on the road. Now with this kit you're getting two steering stabilizers. If one's good then two is better. You have a bracket that's gonna attach to the frame where the sway bar is. You're gonna have another bracket that attaches to the drag link. This is all very easy to install. I'm gonna explain how to install this and where all of the hardware goes in just a minute. Now with these you're getting Rough Country's 2.0 Steering Stabilizers and they are coated. They're a very nice steering stabilizer. They have a lot of positive resistance both ways and also they're coated in a very nice satin black finish, a powder coating that's going to blend into the suspension, really look really good and also it's gonna protect those from rust when you're off-roading, driving around salt filled roads and such. They have a 9/16 chrome plated hardened shaft and they have very nice heavy-duty bushings on both ends with some sleeves. So with all that being said, I'm gonna show you where each and every component goes, what hardware to use, how to get it installed on the Jeep and what exactly it looks like.So the first thing we're gonna do is come over to the passenger side of the Jeep. This sway bar here. We're gonna take these two bolts out. Now these bolts will have a nut on the back side so we're gonna use a 14 millimeter socket, 14 millimeter wrench to take those out. We have brand new bolts to put in as well as install a bracket. So I'm gonna show you how to do that right now.So this is the bracket we're gonna mount on the sway bar area. You're gonna use the smallest bolts that they give you. Each one's gonna get a flat washer and then you're gonna have these little locking nuts to put on top. So we're gonna put this hold down back on there and we're gonna face this bracket facing towards the driver side. After that, we're gonna push those bolts up through just like the factory and we're gonna put the nut on top. So we got both of these sides in and then we'll tighten that up. So after that, we're gonna take that same 14 millimeter socket and wrench and tighten these up.So next we're gonna install our other bracket. You're gonna follow the drag link up. We're basically gonna butt it against this little collar right here. So you're gonna have two holes. One's a little further away. That's gonna be on the bottom. We're gonna install these U-bolts from behind. And then once we get those on, gonna put our nuts on, pretty much tighten that thing down. So if you can't get these through, if they're spread too far apart, you can take Channellocks and just squeeze them together a little bit and that'll get them through. Then we're gonna put these little nuts that they give us on there. And then we're gonna use a 1/2 inch socket to tighten them up. So we wanna get this butted all the way up against here, try to get it even as possible. Also try to get these nuts even on the studs as well. So that's pretty tight. So we'll attach both of our steering stabilizers. Then we'll tighten that up the rest of the way.So we're gonna go ahead and hang one of these at a time. These large bolts that they give you, each one's gonna get a flat washer. They're gonna go through the front towards the back side. Then we're gonna do another flat washer and then the supplied nut. After that, we're gonna extend this, get it to match up on this bracket over here. Then we'll put another bolt in. So same thing. Bolt's gonna go through the front side, nut on the back side, or the flat washer under it. Then we're gonna take a 19 millimeter socket, 19 millimeter wrench and we're gonna tighten all these up. So after that we can finish tightening these with a 1/2 inch.So once you get done this install you wanna drive it around, recheck all of the torque on those bolts. However, that's gonna wrap up my review and install. For more videos and parts like this check us out at extremeterrain.com.

The kit gives you more control of your YJ, reducing the fatigue that comes from having to battle the stiff steering you get with stock stabilizers. You'll enjoy the ride more with the Dual Steering Stabilizer.

Give Bump Steer the Boot. Or at least greatly reduce it. The Rough Country Dual Steering Stabilizer will decrease bump steer, meaning your Jeep's wheels will only move when you steer them. With the Rough Country Dual Steering Stabilizer, you will feel the difference in your Jeep as you navigate a rough dirt track with ease.

Increase Longevity of the Tie Rod and Ball Joint. By restraining bump steer and front end vibration, you'll extend the life of your YJ's ball joints, tires, and other steering components. Tie rods fail from rough road conditions and normal wear and tear. Loose ball joints can cause play in your steering wheel.
