Hey, guys. So, today, I'm here with the Mopar 2-inch hitch receiver, fitting all 2018 JL Wranglers. So, this is going to be for the JL owners looking to add some utility, as well as some towing capabilities to their Wrangler if they didn't get the OEM setup right out of the factory. So, even though the Wrangler is not very well known for towing, a tow hitch or a hitch receiver can definitely provide a number of different benefits when mounted up to the back of your Wrangler. So, is you're looking to mount up any accessories on the back, like a bike rack or a cargo rack, if you're looking to tow small dollies or even small boats, or just use this as a recovery point, this Mopar 2-inch hitch receiver is going to be the perfect solution. Now, this is going to be built very tough. It's a one-piece welded assembly with a two-layered E-coating on it. So, that's going to hold up very well to any weathering while it sits on the back of your Wrangler, and it's going to be very strong, so it's going to have a 350-pound tongue weight, as well as a 3,500-pound towing capacity, which is actually perfect for what your Wrangler is set up for.So, at the moment, this is going to be your only option for a hitch receiver, and it's going to be roughly $200. Now, keep in mind that you are going to be paying a premium for Mopar, but it is built very well, and it is definitely a brand you can count on, so I definitely think that this hitch receiver is on the money. So, taking a step back and looking at the JKs, you can tell that all of their tow hitches range anywhere from $50 all the way up to $200. Now, why am I talking about a JK? That's something that you can probably forecast for the JL. So, you will see those lesser expensive options on the page. Those, however, will not be rated as highly as something like this, especially with it being Mopar. It may not be tow-rated at all. So, if you're looking for something that you can definitely trust and that will hold up in the long run, Mopar is something that you can count on. I definitely thing that it's worth the money. Plus, it also comes with a one-year limited warranty to keep a peace of mind, so that's an added benefit of this.Install's going to be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. I would call it a light two out of three. You will need a couple of hand tools to get the job done. So, speaking of the install, let's jump into that now.The tools that I used for my install today were an 18-millimeter wrench, a 16-millimeter ratcheting wrench, a 3/8-inch drive and ¼-inch drive ratchet, an 18-millimeter socket, and a 10-millimeter socket. So, before you actually crawl under your Jeep to attach your hitch, I would recommend you grab your tools first, as well as something comfortable to lay on because we will be laying underneath the back end here. Now, you will need an 18-millimeter wrench and an 18-millimeter socket to secure the bolts, that come with the hitch, down to the frame of the Jeep. So, now we can head under the Jeep. So, depending on your setup, you may or may not have this bracket. If you do have this bracket, we are not going to utilize it. This has two welded nuts on the back of here, but we don't need those since our new hitch from Mopar comes with two extra nuts in addition to these welded nuts on the actual hitch receiver. So, what I'm going to do is take a 10-millimeter socket and remove this bracket. So, Mopar states that you have to take off the actual rear bumper in order to remove this bracket. What I did is just loosen it up, and I'll show you where I did with a 16-millimeter ratcheting wrench, so we can push the bumper forward to pull this bracket out. I didn't want to actually uninstall the whole bumper and reinstall it just to do a hitch because hitches are really simple. So, what I did was got it so I could push the bumper forward and maneuver this outward. Now, that sounded pretty violent, but it's just popped out, and we'll be able to maneuver this out.So, right here, you have two studs that are holding on to a bracket that'll be on your bumper, and this will actually connect around to your frame. I just loosened up these two nuts on either side with a 16-millimeter ratcheting wrench. So, now we can go ahead and tighten those up, and we can install our hitch now.So, now we're ready to install our hitch, so we're going to line that up with the four holes in the frame, take our hardware, and I'm going to start in the inner two holes just because we have a welded nut on the other side that we can secure the bolt down to. So, once you have one threaded, you can start the other. And what I like about this in comparison to the JK is that the muffler is actually not as in the way to get these bolts in, so it's very easy to get this on and take this off whenever you want to, which I personally really like. So, after those two are threaded in the middle, we can grab the rest of the hardware and thread on the bolt and the nut on the outer post. So, now we can take our 18-millimeter wrench and 18-millimeter socket and tighten those down. So, with the middle two, you'll just need the 18-millimeter socket to tighten those down since there is a welded nut on the back there. So, our last step, since we don't actually have a harness with this, you will need to purchase that separately if that's something that you're looking to do, but our last step is just to install this cover. This is going to prevent any mud, or any dirt, or anything really getting up inside of our hitch receiver here.I'm just going to wrap that around. So, after that is in place, then you're all set to go.So, that's going to wrap it up for my review and install on the Mopar 2-inch hitch receiver, fitting all 2018 JL Wranglers.
