Justin: Rocker Armor Side Step Bars here in Matte Black would be a great choice for all '86 to '07 TJ and YJ owners who are after a very cool-looking option that will also add some minor protection to the bottom rocker area of your rig. Now, these bars will combine a durable 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy along with that matte black powder coat and a one-year warranty off of that mid-to-high $300 price point for the pair. So, right off the bat, guys, I feel like these Rocker Armor options do a great job of combining an awesome look with the functionality of some minor rocker protection and a convenient step all in one. Now, as far as your appearance is concerned here, well, you can see these things are a bit different from some of your more run-of-the-mill options as you're dealing with that square tubing in place of your typical round tubing. And I think that does help contribute to a very tough look. Now, that tubing, again, is constructed from 6061-grade aluminum and then finished off in a matte black powder coat just to help keep things looking good for years to come. Now, earlier I did say these would be minor protection for the rocker area of your TJ or YJ. And I say that because while, yes, the aluminum is pretty sturdy, it should take some abuse. It's ultimately not going to be as durable as some of your other thick-walled steel tubing options that you can find here on the site. So, if you're an occasional offroader or a crawler and don't need all-out bomb-proof rocker protection, then these are certainly going to be a solid option. But, protection aside, these are gonna be extremely useful as their intended purpose, which is a step, right? Now, that's one of the big re-occurring themes I've seen in our customer reviews in the customer review section. So, as always, read up on some of those if you haven't already done so. Now, just over 9 inches here in width from bar to bar, you're getting plenty of real estate to put your foot down either getting in or out of your TJ or your YJ at home. Now, directly in the center you're gonna have your main traction surface. And I would say this is probably a foot and a half or so long. And altogether each step can support upwards of 300 pounds. Now, speaking of length, guys, these Rocker Armor steps will measure in at 57 inches in total length which will make them a perfect option for the two-door rigs out there. Last but not least, they are backed again by that one-year limited warranty just in case you should run into any issues. But now we wanna segue into the installation. And because this is a bolt-on job, guys, I'm just gonna call this a pretty simple one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and an hour to complete from start to finish at absolute most using nothing more than a basic socket set. But to give you a better idea of just how the job will go down, here's an XT customer to walk you through it.Man: All right. And the tools I ended up using, I have pass-through sockets. You don't need that. You could use two wrenches. I got an 18-millimeter, and a 13-millimeter. I got 18-millimeter, 13-millimeter wrench. I got 18 and 13-millimeter extended socket and a 5/8ths to undo my mounting bolts. And a battery-powered impact just to speed up the process after I've loosened the nuts, and safety glasses. You don't wanna get stuff in your eyes. All right. So, we got the U-bracket. We got some spacers. We got a carriage bolt. We got a small washer, a lock ring, and an 8-millimeter nut. This nut requires me to use a 13-millimeter socket to put it on. I took out a bunch of different wrenches, 18-millimeter it's for the big bolts, and 13 will be for the small nut. All right. The U-bracket, the carriage bolt, for spacing in here. You gotta space it around the outside. And the main part here we've got the washer, a lock room, and a nut.All right. So, it has room to adjust when you go to install it. All right. Now to the rear side, same system. Spacer, washer, lock ring, nut, again, a 13-millimeter socket will be able to work on this nut really well. So, we got to turn it the right way. Okay. So, that is on there pretty good. Now, we need to remove the factory mounting bolts and attach these mounting brackets. All right. We're installing the mounting brackets to the undercarriage. This is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. And on these mounting brackets, for the steps that we're installing, they have two cut-out slots. The rear slot is for 1987 to 1995 vehicles, and the slot closest to the bend is for '97 to 2006.All right. Now, we're gonna disconnect the mounting brackets. Put your safety glasses on so you don't get the stuff on your eyes. And it's a 5/8ths socket. All right. Yeah. It's on there tight. According to the instructions, you wanna leave the rubber boot on there. Let's see if we have that. Yep. All right. So, again, this is the 2005 Jeep Wrangler, so I'm gonna need a spacer that's closest to the bend. Yeah. Scoop this out. The impact. Leave a little bit of play in it so that way you can make final adjustments without having to break all the seals on it. All right. We should be ready to do the front. Okay. Again, for the 2005, I'm gonna use the insight slot. Put the washer back in there. Okay. I'll leave it tight, but not too tight so that way you can have a little bit of play. All right. So, now we have the side steps inside. We pre-attached the hardware earlier. Now, I would suggest that at this point that you measure up to make sure you have it positioned fairly well so when you get underneath it'll be really easy to slide in the bolts and the nuts. But if you have big tires like myself, make sure you have this pushed all the way towards the back so that way less of the step is enclosed to the tire. The front seems to have quite a bit of room to play. So, you don't have to worry about the front tire as much. The rear tire on my vehicle looks like, you know, could be an issue. So, I have the mounting brackets or the thing that holds a step-on scooter all the way this side so that way I don't have that problem. I don't have any problems from when the suspension in the vehicle is traveling through on an off-road so we don't have any issues. All right. And so now that we fixed and got our bolt where we need it to be, I'm gonna get underneath and walk you through that part.If you're able to get under the vehicle, this is pretty easy to line up. Again, you put the bolt and the washer, you know, from the outside. And then you have a washer and you got a washer on this side, a lock ring, and a nut, and pretty tighten it with your fingers, get it nice and secure. All right. There will be a lot of adjustments after this, so make sure it's the right height and where you want it to be. I'm gonna move down and attach the bottom ones now. The washer, lock ring, the screw, the bolt, [inaudible 00:12:36]. So, now that they're hooked up, a number 18 millimeter. Okay. You have to use two. You have to use a wrench and if you have a pass-through like me or you can just use two wrenches. Okay. Now, I'm gonna walk to the other side. All right. Now, we're in driver's side front. Make the adjustments. If you're able to raise your vehicle, you could easily hold the steps off your knee. It's very easy. All right. Driver side attached. And now, we'll just do some fine-tuning to tighten up all the other bolts. All right. Now, we go through and we need to tighten up all the... Step is secure. Okay. It's nice and secure. Now 18. Tighten these bad boys up. Okay. Pretty tight. And with the 13, tighten the piece that's on the step on. Tighten a little extra. You don't wanna over-tighten these too much. Good. All right. Okay. Let's take a look at it, see if it's secure. All right. And test it. It's pretty secure. All right. Now we repeat the process on the passenger side.Justin: So, if you are looking for a killer combination of appearance, protection, and step functionality all in one, then be sure to check out the Rocker Armor Side Step Bars for your Jeep right here at extremeterrain.com.
