This part is really all about the looks. This is going to change up the look of the interior of your Jeep as well as give you a slightly different feel when you are shifting the Jeep. Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this shift knob, which is going to be a pretty simple one out of three wrench installation. The most difficult part is removing your factory shift knob, but even that isn't all that difficult. You can use this as a standalone piece on your gearshift, or you can also purchase the transfer case select lever that is going to match the same as this one.Now there are a lot of different shift knobs out there on the market. Some are more novelty. Some are more functional. You do have a lot of options. A lot of them are going to be around the same price as this one. And this being from Drake Off Road, which are known for making a lot of their parts out of billet aluminum is going to be a very high-quality piece that still falls in the same price range as a lot of the others.Like I said, Drake Off Road is known for making most of their products out of billet aluminum, and this is no different. The shift knob is going to be milled out of one solid piece of aluminum. It's then covered in a black anodized finish that's gonna hold up really well even through shifting, through the sun beating on it. This thing is gonna stay black, and this has that tire thread pattern around the outside. That piece is a polyurethane, almost a rubbered-like material. It gives you a little bit of additional style, but also some additional grip when you are grabbing onto the shifter and moving it around. That polyurethane tire thread also hides the set screw that ensures that this thing is gonna stay put without any rattles. So getting this installed on your Jeep is going to be a very simple one out of three wrench install that shouldn't take you more than a half hour to complete. And the first step is removing your factory shift knob. And as I said, that's also the most difficult part of this process not because it's actually all that hard in theory, however, it can be very difficult to actually pull it off and remove it.Now there's going to be a chrome trim ring around the bottom of your factory shift knob. What you'll need to do is use a trim tool or a straight blade screwdriver to pry that ring down. Once that's removed, really all you need to do to get that shift knob off is pull, but it is very firmly on there. Once you have that removed, then you're onto the really easy part. You can remove the tire thread polyurethane piece from your new shift knob, slide it over the shifter, use the set screw to hold it in place, and then replace the tire thread to be finished with the install. The going rate for an aftermarket shift knob is right around at $40. And like I said, even though this one's billet aluminum, which can, sometimes, drive costs up, this one still falls right in that $40 price range. So if you like the clean, simple, and solid build quality of this, I do think it's worth the $40. If you're after something that's a little bit more novelty or just a different style in general, we do have some other options that are gonna be right in the same price range. So if you're looking to change up your interior a little bit, you want something that's going to look a little bit different on the inside of your Jeep, changing out the shift knob is gonna be a nice option to be able to do that. And you can get away with changing the look of your interior for just $40 and a quick and easy install. So that's my review of the Drake Off Road Automatic Transmission Shift Knob in black fitting your 2011 and up JK that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
