Bumper Mounted vs Aftermarket Fog Lights

Not many vehicles get the opportunity to say they can have different fog light mounting locations. Jeeps, on the other hand, have two main points of interest when it comes to fogs. The smaller bumper mounted fog lights and the option for larger aftermarket fogs that usually mount to 3-inch tubing. Said tubing tends to be in the form of a bull bar or winch protector bar on an aftermarket bumper, but you can also elect for a full tubular bumper thereby increasing your mounting options. The stock bumper mounted fog lights are 4-inch rounds while aftermarket options like Hella are 6-inch rounds. Determining the best Jeep fog lights for your rig will ultimately come down to your preferences.

LED Fog Lights vs Halogen Bulbs

Aftermarket versions of the bumper mounted fog lights tend to be LED. LEDs don’t need as much energy for the same amount of light, and they have longer life spans than standard halogens. LEDs have a clear cut off in their light pattern, however, not making them ideal in all situations. Fog lights are supposed to provide light close to the ground underneath fog clouds. While LEDs can be far reaching, halogens can serve a better job in this regard, especially with how far lighting technology has come. You can’t go wrong with either type for the most part. However, halogens tend to be cheaper in their initial cost and in replacing bulbs. If you decide to stick with the bumper mounted lights, there are extension cables available should you need to change the stock location.
