Hey, guys. I'm Eric with ExtremeTerrain. In this video, we're gonna do a review and install of this Barricade Battalion Stubby Front Bumper, fitting all 2020 and later Jeep Gladiators. You should really be checking this out for your Gladiator if you really wanna maximize your off-road ability and maneuverability. Now, a lot of people are drawn to the stubby front bumper designs mainly due to the styling that is really a drastic change from your factory bumper. However, stubby bumpers also offer a huge upgrade in maneuverability, and that largely comes from the fact that they are a full 20 inches shorter than your factory bumper, and that's gonna give you plenty of clearance and basically expose your entire front tire profile to any extreme terrain or obstacles that you're gonna come across out there on the trails. Now your added off-road capability is really gonna come into play with the addition of this built-in winch plate where you can mount up to a 12,000-pound winch, and you have the built-in welded-on D-rings that will accommodate the included D-rings in the kit or you can get your own. These are rated at 9,500 pounds a piece, that should be more than enough pulling power to get you out of any jam that you come across. Now, working with this particular bumper, what I really found appealing was the fact that it's a very easy transition to take your factory fog lights and switch them over to this bumper. The bracketry that is welded onto the back of this bumper makes it really easy to just simply bolt them on. We have the halogens which makes it a direct switch over. If you have the LED fog light package on your Jeep, you just add one more bracket that's included with the kit, and they will bolt up just as easily. You also have the addition option up here to add more factory lighting on the overrider hoop. So, overall, you have lots of options for offroad lighting down the road. And of course, this bumper is made from solid steel plate construction and it is finished in a two-stage black powder coat that's gonna protect it for years against weathering and corrosion. Those are two elements that Barricade is really known for in the construction of their bumpers. With that being said, it currently is priced in the area about $475. That's pretty respectable compared to a lot of other stubby bumper options out there on the market, especially ones that will so easily accommodate your factory fog lights. Now, as far as the installation goes, we're giving it two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. I would give it kind of a medium two. A lot of times we might say it's an easy two or a hard full two wrenches. I would put it kind of right in the middle of that two-wrench range, and that's largely due to the way that this bolts onto the frame rails. It's a little bit challenging and we'll show you ways to work with that here in just a second when we get into the installation. All in all, budget about two hours of your time. You should be able to get this job done with just some basic hand tools without too much problem. So let's go ahead, take a look at the tools we're gonna use, and get to that installation. All right, guys, tools we're gonna use for this installation include an electric impact wrench, a swivel socket, a T-15 socket, a 5-millimeter Allen socket, 10, 13, 16, and 18-millimeter sockets. We're also gonna use the Allen keys that are provided in the kit, 7-millimeter and 13-millimeter crescent wrenches, and a trim removal tool. All right, guys, to begin our uninstall of our stock bumper to get ready for our new product, we're gonna remove a couple of pop clips up top here for the splash guard that kind of tucks in behind the bumper and in front of the radiator grille. So in order to do that, we're gonna leave it on the ground, and then we're gonna put our truck up on a lift just to give you a better camera shot to show you the rest of the stock removal of this bumper.Okay. Go ahead and grab yourself a trim removal tool. If you don't have one of these, a wide blade flat-head screwdriver probably work just as well. Just pull up on these pop clips. That's just to allow this piece to separate from the piece that's attached to the Jeep. All right, guys, now we have a series of these lock pins or lock clips on the underside as well, we're gonna remove these. All right, guys, now you're gonna have two bolts under here, you're gonna need an 8-millimeter socket to get these out. And make sure you're supporting it with the off-hand, and once you get this last one out, it's gonna wanna come off. All right, guys, now we're gonna take our skid plate off here, you're gonna have a 16-millimeter bolt, one on each side. All right, guys, now you're gonna wanna locate this connector right here. This connects the wiring from the Jeep to the wiring harness that runs the full length of your bumper to both fog lights if you have fog lights on your front bumper, which we do. We'll disconnect that one, that's good for both fog lights. All right, guys, next we're gonna be going after these bolts here. You've got four on each side or on each frame rail mount. We're gonna take these out using an 18-millimeter socket. I'm gonna leave that one on a couple of threads just to help secure the bumper and keep it on there while we have our Jeep up in the air.All right, guys, now we're doing the two on the inside of the frame rail on the passenger side of the Jeep here. This bottom one might be a little bit difficult for you to see with the camera angle, but we're gonna start on the top one here. Again, this is an 18-mill socket we're using. All right. Once you get all four of these started, do that in the driver's side of your Jeep. All right, guys, once you have all eight nuts removed including the one we left on there just a couple of threads just to keep it from falling off on us, go ahead and remove your bumper. All right. So now that we have our factory bumper off. I wanna throw it on the floor here next to our new Barricade bumper just to show you a quick side-by-side comparison. Now, obviously, the differences are huge. You're going to a stubby bumper, that's at least 20 inches shorter in width than your factory bumper, so that's gonna give you a lot better clearance when you're out there in the trails. Any obstacles, rocks, tree branches, logs, that kind of thing that you're driving over, this stubby bumper is not gonna get in your way. Now, as you can also see, we're gonna be transferring over our factory fog lights to the mounts that are built into the Barricade bumper. It's gonna be really easy to do that and we'll do that in just a moment. You also have this stylized kind of overrider hoop or bar that kind of comes up and it's gonna provide protection right here to your radiator and grille. And it also gives you two mounting locations if you want to add some more off-road lighting. On top of that, you have the built-in winch plate that can accommodate up to a 12,000-pound winch. So, overall, combined with your D-ring mounts and the included D-rings with this kit, you're getting a lot more off-road capability with this new package from Barricade. So, let's go ahead and get these fog lights out of our factory bumper. All right, guys, next step of the install is we have our factory bumper up here on the table. We're gonna remove the wiring harness that powers our factory fog lights. So, in order to do that, we're gonna have to remove the metal frame that's behind the plastic. That's only gonna be a couple of bolts and then some plastic pop clips, and we'll be able to remove that wiring harness, no problem. So let's go ahead and get started. All right. We'll go ahead and unplug this. All right. Now we're gonna go after these two bolts right here, guys. You're gonna need a 13-millimeter socket to undo these. All right. Now we'll do the two on the other side here. All right. Now unplug your other fog light. All right, guys, now with those four bolts out, we can lift out our metal frame. All right. We're gonna move our tow hook out of the way here. Go ahead and grab a trim removal tool if you have one, or a wide flat-blade screwdriver will work just as well. All right, guys, now to remove our factory fog lights from the bumper housing, we're gonna use a T-15 Torx bit to remove three of these screws. All right. Now, before we can get our new bumper mounted on the Jeep, there are just a couple of things we're gonna do up here on the table, first of which is we're gonna transfer over our factory fog lights to the new bumper. Now, as you can see, we have the halogens off of our Sport model Gladiator here, and they're gonna directly bolt on and I'll show you how to do that in just a second. If your Jeep has the LED lighting package, you can transfer those lights over as well. There's just one additional bracket for each light that you'll have to bolt on. We don't have to do that because we have the halogens here. So let's go ahead and get started. All right. Now, as you can see, guys, the built-in brackets here that are already welded to the bumper are a direct match-up for our halogen lights, so just drop it into place. Now up here, we're gonna need one of these small Allen bolts and a couple of washers, a lock washer, and this teeny tiny nut here, and we're gonna go ahead and mount that up. You can use the Allen wrench that is provided in the kit and keep the nuts in place and from spinning on the backside here, you're gonna want a 7-millimeter crescent wrench. Now for over here, use the same bolts and washers. Now, these bolts will thread directly into this bracket, you're not gonna need a nut to secure that bolt. So once you give that a couple of twists with your fingers, you can go ahead and tighten it up with your Allen key. All right. Repeat that for the other light. All right, guys, now we also have to attach our overrider bar here onto the top of the bumper before we get it mounted up on the Jeep. I have some blocks supporting it on the other end just to kind of help me line it up. We wanna keep it on this angle here to give you a nice shot here for the video. But once we line it up here, go ahead and grab these Allen key button head bolts out of your kit. We're gonna slide a couple on this top. As you see at the top holes here, and then for these holes down below, we're gonna end up using these curved nut plates and we'll get to that in a second. Let's go ahead and thread these on. And while I hold that in place, we're gonna get some nuts on the back side here. All right. For the underside here, go ahead and grab a flat washer, lock washer, and a nut. All right. Now, like I mentioned a moment ago, guys, we're gonna use these nut plates here that are kind of shaped, like the letter C and two more of these button-head bolts. You're gonna slide this. So that's flush up against the holes there, and then we're gonna thread these bolts through the top. All right. Now that we have these all started, we can go ahead and tighten them up. All right, guys, now to tighten these up, these button head bolts use a 5-millimeter Allen socket, or you can use the Allen key provided in the kit. And then up top here where we have nuts on the underside, go ahead and grab a 13-mill crescent for those. Repeat this over on the other side. All right, guys, now to actually mount the bumper to the frame rails of the Jeep, we're gonna be using these combination bolts and nut plates. We're gonna slide them in from the underside of these brackets that are welded directly to the bumper. So go ahead and grab them like this, put the bolt on the top, and kind of feed it through like that. Now, if you hold it like I am with your fingers from behind like this, you're gonna find four of these plastic retaining clips in your kit. Go ahead and slide that over. And if they're a little too tight, they'll thread down just like a bolt would, and that'll basically hold that in place until we can line it up on the frame rails of the Jeep. And go ahead and do that on the other side. Now, at this step of the installation, guys, I highly recommend grabbing a friend to help you line things up. This bumper isn't the heaviest one we sell, but getting these lined up to the holes without pushing those bolt plates back out of where we have them seated with those plastic retaining clips can be frustrating if you're trying to do this yourself. And there's a little bit of play in those holes there, so they can slide and line up appropriately, but that also makes a bit of a challenge if you're trying to do this by yourself. So I'm gonna have a friend here, step in. We're gonna line it up and start a bolt on each side. Now that we have it started on like that with a bolt on each side, just kind of securing it so the bumper doesn't fall off, we're gonna go ahead and raise this up for you guys so we can get a better angle of what we're doing and we'll show you how the rest of the hardware goes on.All right, guys, now we are on the passenger side frame rail on the outside. As you can see, we already have a nut and washer up there started, that's what we started when we put the bumper on. So now I'm just gonna kind of lift up on this a little bit, try and get a little bit better alignment. This is probably the trickiest part of the install. All right. Once you get that started, we'll come back and tighten that up once we get the other bolts in place. All right, guys, now, we are still on the passenger side. We're on the inside of the frame rail is what you're looking at.Now, this is probably one of the most challenging parts of this install is getting this bolt threaded through and getting it lined up with that nut plate that's back there. And it's kind of free-floating, nothing holding it steady in place, and it's hard to see what you're doing. So what I recommend doing is kind of reaching up over top of your fog light here, and sliding a hand in on the backside to kind of secure and hold that nut plate steady while you thread the bolt in to do that. And I had to do that off camera because really with my arms up in here, you weren't gonna be able to see anything anyway, but now that we have that bolt started here, I'm gonna go ahead and get a nut and washer up top here. Now that we have everything started here, we're gonna do the same thing on the other side, and then we'll tighten everything down. And to tighten these down, I'm gonna use an 18-millimeter socket, and I also have a swivel socket on attached. And then we're gonna move to the outside of the frame rail over here. All right. Now, go ahead and repeat the same thing on the driver's side. All right, guys, one of the last things we need to do here is get our factory wiring harness reattached to our fog lights, then go ahead and plug it into the main harness. All right. One of the last things we got guys is our D rings.Okay, guys. That wraps up this review and install of this Barricade Battalion Stubby Front Bumper, for all 2020 and later Jeep Gladiators. And for all things Gladiator, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
