Hey, guys. I'm Eric with ExtremeTerrain. In this video, we're gonna do a review and install of this Barricade Apocalypse Grille Guard, fitting all 2020 and later Jeep Gladiators. Now, if you're a Gladiator owner who wants to completely transform the front end of their truck, both in terms of styling and off-road capability, you really need to be checking out this Apocalypse Grille Guard from Barricade. Now, it's pretty obvious, even at a quick glance that this grille guard is really the definition of aggressive styling. But if you're like me, you want a good solid mix of function to go along with your style. And what you're looking at here is more than just a simple grille guard. The backbone of this kit is actually a heavy-duty stubby bumper, that's gonna provide you a winch mount that's built right in that can accommodate up to a 12,000-pound winch, plus you also have these heavy-duty D-ring mounts, and then the included 9,500-pound rated D-rings that come with the kit. Now, not only can you mount a winch to this bumper, you also have all the other attractive features that come with a stubby bumper. You have the heavy-duty front-end protection right here in front of your grille, but you also have a much shorter bumper that is gonna expose your tires to make it a lot easier to get over obstacles when you're out there on the trails. Now, if I was on the market for this kind of aggressive styling for the front end of my Jeep, this is probably the kit I would wanna get, and I'll tell you why. What I really like about not only this aggressive look up top here, but if you look at the front end of the stubby bumper, to me, it kind of reminds me a little bit of a military Humvee. So, overall, when you combine that with the aggressive looks up top here, the really the message you're putting out there is that you mean business. Now, combined with the solid steel plate construction and the two-stage finish that includes an epoxy pre-coating and the fit durable powder coat that's gonna protect this bumper against weathering and corrosion. You are looking at a very durable product that really follows along with Barricade's name and what they're known for. Priced around $850. This is kind of a premium when it compares to other basic stubby bumpers. However, you're not just getting the bumper, you're getting this overall grille guard and this isn't just plastic facade like you see a lot of other kind of that aggressive styling that you'll see up here over the grille. This isn't plastic, this is all steel, and it's very durable. It's gonna take impacts when you're out on the trail. If you're pushing down a less travel trail that has overgrown bushes and tree branches, that kind of thing, this is gonna have no problem pushing those out of the way.So for $850, I think all of those features wrapped into the whole complete package kind of justifies that. Now, as far as the installation goes, guys, we're giving it two outta three wrenches in our difficulty meter. I think that's mainly due to the fact that there are several steps involved, including removing all of your factory grille area and a couple of other bolts and frame pieces that are associated with that, as well as some of this stuff underneath. There's nothing really challenging though. Some basic tools I'm sure you have in your toolbox at home are all you're really gonna need. I would budget about three hours of your time. Like I said, there's several steps involved, but nothing really complicated. So, overall, let's take a look at the tools we're gonna use and go ahead with the installation.Okay, guys. Tools you're gonna see in this install include an electric impact wrench, a hand socket wrench, a T15 and a T30 Torx Bit, a 10-millimeter socket, a 13-millimeter, 16-millimeter, and a pair of 18-millimeter sockets. The Allen Key that's included in the kit, and a 13-millimeter crescent wrench. All right, guys. Now, to get into the installation of our new RedRock 4x4 Grille Guard, first couple of things we need to do, we need to take some stuff off our Jeep. And it's gonna be the trim piece that's right here behind the bumper, as well as the splash guard in the front, as well as the skid plate behind it. So, let's go ahead and get started. All right, guys. Now, to get this trim piece out of here, you should have two lock pins in these holes right here. This Jeep does not have those, so we're not gonna have to pull those out, but we do have six on the back side of the bumper here. Just go ahead and grab yourself a flat blade screwdriver. And these are the two-piece pins where you pull out the centerpiece, and then once that's out, that's like a locking tab and you can pull the whole pin out like that. Just go ahead and repeat. You should have six of them back here.If the centerpiece pops out like that, it's no big deal. You can put it back in just by popping it back into the clip there. With all those lock pins removed, you can just go ahead and pull this piece out. All right, guys. Now, to get our splash guard off, we're gonna have a series of more of these lock pins. These look a little bit different than the ones we just pulled out, but they basically function the same. There's two pieces. You're gonna wanna get your screwdriver in between the two there. Just kind of pull down, and that kind of unlocks it, then you get underneath the base of it and pull it out. Go ahead and repeat that. You should have about eight of these along this line here. And then we're gonna have a couple of screws to remove. All right, guys. Now, I'll get this screw out. You're gonna have two of these under here, they're both 8-millimeter sockets you'll need. And just go ahead and remove the one out on the other side as well. All right, guys. Now with all those clips and the two screws removed, you should be able to just pull this away. All right, guys, now go ahead and unplug the main wiring harness that connects the bumper wiring harness to the rest of your truck. All right. Now we want to undo the bolts that are holding our factory bumper to the frame rails. To do that, you're gonna need an 18-millimeter socket. Might be hard for you guys to see there because they're kind of tucked in behind, but you're gonna have two on the outside and two on the inside of each frame rails for a total of eight. All right. Once you get the four nuts off of your passenger's side, go ahead and repeat that on the driver's side. All right. Once you get all eight nuts off there, guys, go ahead and remove your bumper. All right. Using a 16-mil socket, guys, we're gonna take care of this bolt here and the one on the inside of the frame rail, and we're gonna remove these brackets, we're not gonna need these. And do the same thing on the driver's side. All right. Next, we need to remove the factory grille. In order to do that, we've got six more of these locking tabs or clips across the top. We're gonna remove those and then we should be able to just pop the grille off of the frame. With your flat head screwdriver, get these out. All right. Once you guys get that last one removed. All right, guys. Now, we're gonna remove our radiator supports here and here. Go ahead and grab a T30 Torx Bit. All right, guys. Now, we need to remove this plastic piece right here. There's a couple of lock clips that are holding in place as well as two T15 Torx Bit bolts. So, we're gonna remove the Torx Bit bolts first. Now, those removed, we should be able to just pop this off. We're gonna remove the driver's side one as well. No Torx Bit bolts on this side, just two retaining clips there. So, go ahead and insert your tool behind there and gently pry out.All right. Next, guys, go ahead and grab this bracket outta your kit. It's actually a nut plate. You have some nuts welded onto the backside there. Have the nuts on the engine side, and we're going to attach it using our factory radiator supports that we removed a second ago. Go ahead and put those back on and we're reusing the factory hardware.I'm gonna grab the other one and get it started. Now we're gonna attach the bottom end. All right. Now, again, T30 Torx Bit, go ahead and tighten them up. All right, guys. Go ahead and grab your winch plate. We're gonna go set it down on top of our frame rails and then from there, we'll get our hardware all mounted up.All right, guys. Go ahead and grab a D-ring mount and we're gonna sandwich this in between our bolt here and onto our winch plate. So, I'm gonna start the bolt in here and just kind of lift this up till you got that lined up. And take a washer, a lock washer, and a nut, and get it started on the backside just to hold everything on. And now we're gonna move to the outside on the other side, just so we get it up and level.Like we just did, guys, take another D-ring mount, a bolt, and a flat washer. Get it started. And put your flat washer and lock washer on the back and start a nut. Now we'll finish up the remaining four bolts. All right, guys. To tighten these up, you're gonna need an 18-mil socket or 18-millimeter tool on both sides. And then repeat that on the driver's side. All right, guys. Go ahead and grab your grille guard, we're gonna set it up in place here. All right, guys. Now, what we're gonna do is we're gonna bolt these top two holes here to that bracket that we reattached using our factory radiator supports a moment ago. Go ahead and grab two of these M6 Allen Bolts outta your kit, as well as a flat washer, and get them started in here. As you can probably tell, I have my leg up against this. It's a little unstable without anything bolted up, so you're gonna wanna make sure you're holding it up against the grille when you get these started. In the kit, they give you this long Allen wrench, go ahead and use that. All right, guys. Next, we're gonna be mounting this bracket and it's stamped with a letter D on it so we know it's on the driver's side. In order to do that, we need to remove this bolt right here using a 13-mil socket. Just hold onto that bolt, we're gonna use it here. Set this down into place, but don't tighten it up just yet. We're now gonna use another bolt included in the kit. One of these small M6 bolts again, using the Allen or Allen Bolt, a flat washer.Flat washer on the backside, and then grab one of these nylon lock nuts out of kit. And then go ahead and grab your Allen Key again, and a 10-mil socket for the backside here on the nut. Then repeat that on the other side. And with your 13-mil socket, go ahead and tighten this down. Then repeat that in the other side as well. All right, guys. Now, there are three tabs that are connected to the bottom of our grille here and they lay across the top of the winch plate. And what we're gonna do is we're gonna thread a bolt through each one of those three tabs and put a nut on the underside and tighten it down. So, that way we have our grille guards securely mounted against our winch plate. I'm just gonna start a bolt by hand or start a nut by hand here. And we'll do that for all three of those tabs. All right, guys. Now, to tighten these down, you need a 13-millimeter tool on both sides. And repeat that for the other two bolts as well. All right, guys. All we have left is we're gonna throw on our D-rings and then we can call this installation complete. Okay, guys, that wraps up this review and install of this Barricade Apocalypse Grille Guard, fitting all 2020 and later Jeep Gladiators. For all things Gladiator, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
