      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. So, today, we're checking out the Axial Halo LED Fog Lights in Amber, fitting all 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers. So, if you are in search of an upgrade for the front-end lighting for your JK, this option by Axial is going to be a great choice to take a look into. Now, these are going to do a great job at upgrading your lighting performance when it comes to better visibility when driving with your fog lights at night, and they're also going to clean up the look, giving you a more modernized look with the bright white color temperature and the overall LED housing. Now, these are going to be great for anybody who is looking for that upgrade, whether that's styling or performance or has a burnt-out bulb or a damaged lens and they're looking for an upgrade while also getting a replacement at the same time. Now, the LEDs will do a really good job at increasing that lighting performance giving you a more uniform light pattern, and also helping out when it comes to assisting the headlights in better visibility, especially on dark back roads. Now, these will be even great for somebody who's looking to match with any other LEDs that they have upfront, especially if they already have a halo. Now, speaking of that halo, this will come with an amber halo, which will set it apart from the rest when it comes to the other options in the category. Now I do really like that, it gives you more of a custom look when it comes to having those daytime running lights on and having an amber halo there. Now, what I also really like about that is the fact that you can run these into your turn signals since they are independently wired, which I'll show you in a minute, and you will be able to actuate both of these with your turn signal function. So, because they are amber, you can utilize it that way. So, it kind of gives you some options leaving the table open to setting it up however you'd like. I do like that out of this set of headlights, and you get all of that with also being incredibly affordable. So, these are going to come in at roughly $150, which is a great price point for what you're getting out of the kit. Not only are you getting the option to customize it how you want, you're getting good lighting performance, you're getting a solid construction, and overall a good-looking light out of it the kit. Now, in comparison to some other choices available on the page, there are going to be some less expensive options. However, they may not come with the halo or they may not be amber. And then there are going to be other options available that are just set up a little bit differently. They may have a halogen light or a projector light instead of the LEDs here. And again, they may not have the halo or they may have RGB technology kind of adding some extra bells and whistles. Now, I personally think if you're looking to keep it on a budget, but you're also looking for a little bit of a custom look in the meantime, then these are going to be a great choice to take a look into. As far as install is concerned, I'm going to give it a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour to get these installed. Now, you are going to need some basic hand tools and there will be a little wiring involved. However, it is very simple and I'll walk you right through it in just a second. So, speaking of the install, let's jump into that now. Tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, an 18 and 8-millimeter socket, a couple of extensions, a wire tool, and a 3/8-inch drive ratchet. In order to remove our fog lights, we will have to remove our bumper to make room to get the fog lights out of place. Now, we're going to head underneath, unplug our fog lights, and then we can remove our bumper using an 18-millimeter socket. I also have an extension, so as soon as you have that, we can head underneath the Jeep. So, for unplugging your fog lights, all we have to do is grab the harness, press down on that clip and pull back. And we can do the same thing for the other one. Now that the fog lights are unplugged, what we can do is remove the hardware that's holding the bumper to the frame rails. We're going to have two nuts on either side of both of the frame rails. I'm going to use an 18-millimeter socket to remove them. It may be a little bit difficult to see just because they are recessed inside the bumper here. And you can repeat that for the six other studs. So, the outside ones are a little bit easier to see. For these, I'm going to use an extension just to clear this side of the bumper here. You may not be able to use the extension for the inside bolts because there is a little bit more going on there with the crossmember and also the vacuum pump. This point, we can remove our bumper and put it to the side so we can swap out our fogs. So, now that we have the bumper out and on the table, we do need to remove our fog lights at this point. So, I'm going to use an 8-millimeter socket in order to remove the four screws that are holding it in. Once those four screws are removed, we can pull out our fog light and install our new one. This is going to go in at the exact same way as it came out. And then we can reinstall with our bolts. Now, once all four bolts are installed, what we need to do is attach a lead to the other side of this wire here. Now, this is going to be for our halo. So, this will plug into the small lead here, and then what we can do is wire this into our marker light for our running light. So, when our marker lights are on or our daytime running lights are on, the halo will illuminate. So, what I'm going to do is add a lead. I already have a spade connector on the marker light on the Jeep. So, it's going to be connected with the same style connector, and this is going to make it easy to disconnect if we ever have to take the bumper off in the future. So, just pop this right on. We can crimp it down once it's in place. Use a wire tool. Once that's attached, we can repeat that same process for the other side. Now with the bumper back on the frame rails, what we can do is plug in our new connector to our OEM harness. Once you hear that click, we can tuck that down on in and we can plug in our wire for our halo over at our marker light. What we can do at this point is plug in our wire for our halo. Now, in the instructions, you will be able to use the marker light, and this is the wire that's tucked up into the fender liner. And this is going to be the marker light over on this side. However, I already have a lead over on our turn signal, which also is a marker light whenever the daytime running lights are on and there is also a lead on the turn signal actuator. So, I'm going to plug this into our daytime running light, which is the middle wire, it's the white wire with the green trace. However, because the halos are amber, if you want to wire them into your turn signal actuator in order for them to blink whenever your turn signal is actuated because it is amber and it can function as a turn signal, you can do that as well. And that's going to be the wire on the bottom, which is the white wire with the gray trace. So, you can kind of wire this however you'd like. I personally like to run it to the marker light over on or the turn signal here just because it is a little bit closer to the fog light, and then we can tuck some of this wire back up in. But again, you can kind of do whatever you want with this if you want to put it on the turn signal actuator and have it function as a turn signal, which I can show you in just a sec then you can do that as well. So, now that the bumper is on and the lights are wired in, what we can do is secure our bumper down with our factory hardware. So, we're just going to thread that hardware onto the studs where we originally took it off, and we can tighten it up with that 18-millimeter socket. After those are tight, we can repeat that for the other six studs. So, before I go ahead and install the other side, what I wanted to do was step down and show you guys a little comparison between our new light and our factory one, show you some of the similarities and the differences between the two and why moving to this Axial option is going to be a big upgrade for your JK. Now, starting off with just a brief overview of our factory light, as you, guys, are probably familiar with this, this is going to have some standard factory features to it. It's going to have a plastic housing, a plastic lens, standard chrome reflector, and it's going to have that incandescent or halogen bulb inside. Now, that tends to burn out every so often, it doesn't necessarily have the longest lifespan, and it is going to be a lot duller than a LED, like our new option, giving you the best light performance when it comes to your fog lights. And, overall, is going to be a little bit warmer when it comes to the hue or color temperature of the light. Overall, a solid option for stock application. But when you're looking for an upgrade, this option by Axial is going to take the cake. Now, this is going to have a durable housing in comparison to our plastic one. We will have a plastic outer housing just to mount it to at the bumper itself, but the inner housing is going to be made in an aluminum material. It's going to have a nice extra black powder-coat finish on top to protect that aluminum. And it's going to have a solid lens here that is going to be able to take a hit while you're off-road. It will be a little bit more impact-resistant than our factory plastics. So, you can ensure that this is going to hold up.These will also be IP65 rated, so they will be dustproof and waterproof. You will be able to take your Jeep through puddles, take it on the trail and not worry about these fogging up or getting any condensation, any water, or any dust into the LED itself. Now, speaking of the LED, this is going to not only come with the LEDs inside that are going to be a lot brighter, give you some better lighting performance, look a lot cleaner and a lot more modernized, and also just, overall, the actual housing looks more modernized with how those LEDs are set up, but there's also going to have a halo on the inside. Now, the halo inside is going to eliminate in an amber color. And I do really like that because it kind of sets it apart from some of the other options in the category that usually have that bright white light as the halo instead of an amber color. Now that is going to either wire into your daytime running light or wire into your running light so you can have them on all the time. But what I do like about the amber halo itself is the fact that you could also run this into your turn signal. So, if you want this to actuate whenever you hit your turn signal, this is independently wired on each of them. So, you could use that for that function. So, it kind of gives you options in customizing the light and what you want to use that halo for. So, I do really like that out of this set and obviously, big upgrade in comparison to our factory one that doesn't have a halo at all. Now, these are going to be mostly plug and play. That wire that is responsible for the halo will need to be wired in, however, it's very simple. As you, guys, saw, you can kind of wire this in however you'd like, but there is a lead and they do provide you with what you need in order to get that installed. So, speaking of that, let's go ahead and install the other side and see how they look together. So, that is going to wrap it up for my review and install.
