Merideth: Hey, guys. So, today, we're checking out the AWE Tread Edition Dual Side Exit Exhaust System with the Black Diamond Tips, fitting all 2020 and newer 3.6-liter JT Gladiators. So, if you're in search of some better sound for your gladiator and a very sleek look in a high-quality exhaust system, then you have definitely found it.Now, this option by AWE is going to completely transform the way your 3.6-liter sounds, with a deeper exhaust note and some better volume, as well as little to no drone. Now, when it comes to the sound of this exhaust system, I'm gonna give this a three out of five on the loudness meter, with one being completely stock and five being wake-the-neighbors loud. Now, what I really like about this exhaust system is the fact that this is going to give you the volume and a throaty sound to the exhaust while not being obnoxious, which is perfect for the JT owner who really likes to hear their exhaust but doesn't want something that's gonna interfere with their everyday driving. Now, not only will this sound good but it's gonna look good at the same time with the dual-side exit and a large 5-inch straight-cut double-wall tip with a nice black-diamond powder coat finish. Now, speaking of the construction, this will feature a high-flow straight-through-muffler design that will be responsible for that aggressive sound that comes out of that 3.6-liter while having drone-canceling 180 technology integrated into the system. This will also be built from a high grade T-304L stainless steel, it's going to have 3-inch mandrel bend tubing for optimal rust resistance and smooth and direct airflow. Not to mention, this is going to be completely bolt-on, making install straightforward, so, there's no need for any cutting or welding. Now, when it comes to price, with a premium build like this, you can expect more of a premium price point at roughly $1,400.Now, what I think that stands out from this system is the fact that this is a full 304 stainless build, it's got a rich exhaust note to it, and it's got large 5-inch black tips. Now, others in the category that may be a little bit more cost-effective may be made of a 409 stainless steel with a 304 tip or they're gonna be made of an aluminized steel, which is very close to the factory material, so, those aren't gonna be as rust-resistant as this option. And then you're gonna see some that come in different configurations, like a single exit, a turn-down style exit, or maybe a dual rear exit instead of this dual side exit here. Now, overall, I think, if you have the couple extra bucks to spend on a high-quality exhaust, it's going to give you a really sleek look to the back of your gladiator and also really good sound, then this is going to be it.Now, as far as install is concerned, this is gonna be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It is pretty straightforward but it may take you about 2 hours to get the job done with the right tools. And one of our guys here, in the shop, is gonna walk you through that process step by step. That's gonna wrap it up for my review, let's go ahead and get into the install.Man 1: The tools you're gonna need for this installation include an impact gun, a ratchet or an electric ratchet, a socket extension, 10, 13, 16, and 18-millimeter sockets, a 13-millimeter wrench, gloves, eye pro, and lubrication. What's up, everybody. Today, we have a cat-back exhaust system for our 20 Gladiator. And we previously did the uninstall, and we're gonna show you that footage now, then I'll be back to show you how to install it step by step.Man 2: Okay, guys. First step, obviously, is we're gonna have to remove our factory exhaust. Now, we have our Gladiator up on a lift to give you guys some better angles to show you exactly what we're doing underneath the jeep. And the way we're gonna do this is gonna preserve our factory exhaust. If you don't care about your factory exhaust, it might be easier just to cut it off, but we're gonna show you how to get this off while preserving the piping. So, let's go ahead and get started. All right, guys. First thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna remove the skid plate here, and that's so we can drop the front end of the exhaust down. It'll make it a little bit easier to kind of work its way out. The factory exhaust is, basically, one piece from the Y-pipe all the way back to the tail pipe. So, what we're first gonna do is we have a 13-mil bolt, or a nut, right here we're gonna remove, and then we have four 18-millimeter bolts here and then 2 up front here that we're gonna remove. And that'll let us get the skid plate down. All right. Like I said, guys, that one we just did was a 13-millimeter, and the next 4 are all gonna be 18-millimeter sockets you're gonna need. All right, guys. Now, before I do the front two, make sure you're supporting it with your hand because, once you loosen these, the skid plate's gonna wanna drop on you.All right, guys. Now, this point back is what we're gonna be removing. So, this clamp here we're gonna loosen. You're gonna need a 13-mil socket for this bolt clamp. Now, unlike a regular flat clamp, these bolt clamps have a kind of a curved edge to kind of cup around the end of the flange here, so, you have to loosen it quite a bit in order to slide this out eventually. So, we have that pretty good loose, so, we're gonna move to the next step. All right, guys, now we're gonna pull back on this lock tab. This is just kinda to prevent the clamp from sliding at all. So, just get a screwdriver in there, pull that back. All right, guys, now we're right near the tail pipe. And this is the rear most hanger. We're gonna remove this bracket because it is the one bracket that is pointing in an opposite direction from the other hangers further forward on the exhaust. I'm gonna use a 13-mil socket on these 2 bolts as well. All right, guys. Now, just to get it out of our way, we're gonna pull this hanger off. You're gonna have to pull it out a little bit and rotate it down. There's this little tab right here that hooks into the frame rail, so, you need to get it away from there. You should be able to just pull this out like that. All right, guys. Now, go ahead and assemble the tool that comes with your jeep. We're going to lower our spare tire, get that out of the way, and then also remove the spare-tire guard to finish getting out our exhaust pipe. Now, this tool, basically, goes into a plastic sleeve that's behind the bumper here. Once you get that in and you can't twist it by hand, then you know you're on the...it's kinda like a bolt back in there that the end of this tool goes on. And we're gonna use this just like a socket wrench. And then the lug wrench here has a square opening in it. Out that on the end here. All right, with a bunch of slack let out, guys, you don't wanna drop it all the way to the ground, like, you wanna be able to get a hand underneath your tire, lift your tire up. And there's a black bracket, the tire rests on. Slide it up the cable and get it through the lug hole. All right, guys. Now, to remove the heat shield that protects our spare tire, you're gonna have 5 bolts, they're all 10-millimeter. There's three up here that are gonna be very hard, if not impossible, for you guys to see on camera here. But we're gonna take those three out first. All right. Then we have the last 2 right here, again, 10-millimeter.All right, guys. Now, at this step, we only have two hangers that are holding our exhaust pipe up, and they are both pointing towards the front. Which means, with the help of my friend back here, we're gonna slide the entire pipe backwards out of these two hangers and then drop it down and actually pull it forward to clear the rear axle.Man 1: We're ready to start installing our cat-back exhaust. And we're gonna start up by the cat in the front of the jeep by installing our front pipe. So, let's get this in.We're gonna reuse the factory clamp. So, just kind of slide this out of the way for now. And then fit this over the top of the bubble part of the pipe here. And to get this clamp over top of your front pipe, you can kind of pry the clamp open by hand in order to slide it over the top of the front pipe. All right, once that's in there, take your 13-millimeter socket, tighten that down. This is a little tricky because, if you're one-handed like me, I'm holding the pipe and using my tool, it kind of pushes the retaining bolt here out of the way. So, do it kind of gently at first so it gets started. Like so. Then you kinda just gotta turn that so it's sitting inside the clamp properly. I'm actually gonna loosen it just a little bit just so we have enough to adjust this pipe as needed.Next, we're gonna slide our mid-pipe over our muffler, grab one of the clamps that's supplied in the kit, slide that over the mid-pipe. And also the isolator that we removed earlier slide, that onto the hanger. Make sure everything's positioned properly. Let's mount our isolator first. Put the bolts in a couple times, a few threads by hand first...and take your 13-millimeter socket and tighten this down.Next, grab your 15-millimeter socket, tighten this clamp down just enough so it's tight but also so we have some room to adjust this pipe if needed. Once the isolator is secure, grab your 16-millimeter socket to tighten down the clamp leaving it just a little loose for adjustment.Next, we're gonna install our muffler. Grab a supplied clamp and also this isolator that we removed earlier, put that on the hanger. We gotta kind of route the muffler up over the axle here a little bit in order to slide it onto our mid-pipe. Position our clamp. And then, with your 16, let's tighten this down just a bit and make sure we can adjust it up to the position it needs to be.All right. Next, we're gonna bolt up this isolator to the frame. So, make sure you're not cross threading your bolts. You always wanna get a few threads in by hand. Now, we've got our Y-pipe, we'll put our clamp on this end here. Actually, I wanna put it on the other way, easier to get to the nut. And our third isolator that we removed, slide that onto the hanger. And then the stubby end of this Y-pipe goes facing the passenger side. I'm gonna grab my 16 and tighten this clamp down. And then we're gonna fasten the isolator to the frame in the next step. This isolator has hooks in it to make sure it's just facing the right way when you put it on the exhaust hanger. And line up all the holes with the frame. Grab the bolts and thread them in by hand and then tighten them down with the 13-millimeter.So, at this point, we have to install the hanger that holds the passenger-side muffler of this dual exhaust. And the kit comes with parts to create a hanger and hang it right here. This is the rear passenger side of the frame, and you can locate where we're gonna be putting this hanger by looking at the bottom of the frame. And you have these two holes right here, this oval one and the circle one. And then right in the middle, on the side of the frame...we are on the outside of the frame, by the way, there's three holes. We're gonna be using the bottom hole and the top hole. So, the hanger consists of this plate, two bolts. And then there's also gonna be two lock washers and two nuts that we're gonna put on here. And the bolts and nuts are 13-millimeter. And then we're gonna be hanging the hanger right there. So, I'll show you that now. So, when you get this, when you get these pieces, they'll be separate. So, this plate is actually threaded. So, you're gonna thread the bolts in here, tighten them down. Once you have that done, like so, slide it through this big circle here. And then you're gonna fish it through from inside those two holes there. Once you got that in position, grab the hanger, the two lock washers and two nuts, then you're gonna slide the hanger in place and put the hardware in place, again, using the 13-millimeter socket. We got the passenger-side tail pipe, one of the supplied clamps and the supplied isolator that's gonna mount to the hanger that we just installed. Slide our clamp over our tail pipe...and then I already lubed up the hanger, or the isolator, just to make it a little easier to slide onto the hangers. Slide it over our Y-pipe. Then we can slide it onto the hanger that we installed. Take our 16-millimeter and tighten down the clamp. All right. Now it's time to install the tips. So, grab one of the tips and a clamp. It slides over very easily. I'm gonna position my clamp like this so the nut is up, just to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Line it up according to how you like it to sit with the body and then grab your 16-millimeter socket and tighten this clamp down. So, that's the installation for this tip. And the other side is gonna be the exact same way. Once you have your tips installed, just make sure all your pipes are lined up so they're not hitting anything and everything looks right. And tighten down all your nuts and bolts, always good to double check that.Merideth: So, that's gonna wrap it up for my review and the install of the AWE Tread Edition Dual Side Exit Exhaust System with the Black Diamond Tips, fitting all 2020 and newer 3.6-liter JT Gladiators.
