These RedRock 4x4 Tail Light Guards in black are for those of you that have a 2007 to 2018 JK, that are looking for a way to add a little bit of protection to your tail lights, and also change up the look of your Jeep, giving you a little bit more of that off-road or safari styling. These are going to be a very easy one out of three wrenches for the installation. Unlike some other tail light guards, these don't include new hardware, spacers, or any of that stuff. You just have to zip four screws out, and put them back in with the tail guard in place, and I'm going to show you how to do the installation in just a second. So, while these are called a tail light guard, as with most tail light guards on the market, these aren't going to offer a ton of protection to your tail lights. Now if you do take a little bit of a bang, this is going to help to spread out some of that load across the entire tail light, which can help prevent your tail light from cracking. Again, if it were to make contact with an off-road obstacle, however, if we're being honest, the tail light guard is still mounted to the same plastic that the tail light is made out of, so you're not gaining a ton of strength there. Now, there are some designs out there that will actually be a full cage around the tail light. Those are going to be a little bit stronger, but in that situation, you can actually transfer an impact from your tail light guard into the body of the Jeep, which would be a much more expensive repair than just swapping out a tail light. So, a couple of different schools of thought there, a couple of different designs. I really like this one because it does offer a little bit of protection, but it's not going to damage the tub of the Jeep if you take a hard smack against the tail light. The other big benefit to having a tail light guard is, as we said before, the aesthetic change that they provide to the back of the Jeep. This is really going to give you a drastically different look, and you're going to get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to dollars for the effect that they have on the look of your Wrangler. Now, you can always change out your tail lights completely to change up the look of your Jeep, but that's going to be significantly more expensive than just slapping a set of these tail light guards on here. So again, a lot of bang for your buck here. These are only going to run you right around that $30 mark. I think that's very fair for what you're getting. Because these are going to be bent steel with a powder coat finish on them, as opposed to some of the other versions that are going to be bar steel that have to be welded together, this is going to be a little bit less expensive. I personally prefer the look of these over some of the other ones, so I think you're getting great look, good protection, all at a fair price. These are a win, win, win.So, as I said before, a nice easy installation for you. Let me show you how to do it. For this installation, we used a number two Phillips head socket on a 3/8 impact, but a regular screwdriver would work just fine. So, like I said before, very easy installation here. We're just going to remove the four screws from the factory tail light, put the guard in place, and replace those screws over top. No new hardware, no spacers. Very, very simple. Now, when you're looking at the tail light, these four screws do have slightly different purposes. So, the outside screws here are going to hold the tail light lens to the rest of the tail light body. The inside screws hold the entire tail light body to the Jeep. So just keep that in mind when you're removing those screws. Have an extra hand on everything here so the lens doesn't fall and crack on you, so the whole body doesn't fall off the Jeep. Just keep that in mind. So, we'll start right here zipping a couple of screws off on the outside, then move to the inside. One more. Grab our tail light guard, and we'll start all the screws by hand and then zip them back in again. As you can see, there is going to be a left and a right guard. We are working on the driver's side of the Jeep, and the larger opening here is the one that goes around the reverse light. Also, I'm using an impact, but it's a little overkill for what we're doing here. A regular screwdriver would be just fine. If you are going to use an impact, you're going to want to make sure you have a light touch, because you can very easily strip out the clips that hold these screws. Once you have all the screws started by hand, go ahead and tighten them down. Then we can move on to the other side. And that's going to do it for the installation. So, if you are looking for a set of tail light guards that are going to offer a little bit of protection but also change up the look of your Jeep, I would recommend this option from RedRock 4x4, and you can find them right here at extremeterrain.com.
