Hey, guys. So today we're checking out the RC2 LR Bull Bar and Skid Plate with the 20.5-inch LED Light Bar in extra black fitting all 2016 and newer Toyota Tacomas. So if you're looking for some frontend protection but you're not necessarily interested in upgrading to a complete front bumper, this is going to be a great choice to take a look into. So what I really like about this is the fact that it's gonna offer a lot of frontend protection, whether you're taking your truck on the worksite, whether you're taking your truck off-roading or just any kick-up on the street, and that's thanks to the tubular construction as well as the mesh grille down at the bottom there. Now, this is going to be made of a mild steel material, so it will be able to hold up to whatever you throw at it and it's gonna have a nice texture black powder coat finish on top that's going to provide a more heavy-duty and off-road look for the front of your truck. Now, what I really like about this is the fact that it's gonna come with that LED light bar right up front that's gonna help you out if you need some extra visibility on dark back roads, dark trails, or really whenever you need some extra light, it's going to come with a wiring harness included with a 12-volt switch. So this is going to be a pretty inclusive package and make it incredibly easy to install. And not to mention, on top of that light bar, you're also getting some light mounting options up top if you'd like to add any additional auxiliary lighting or really whatever you can mount up on top of that bull bar there. Now, with that being said, this is gonna come in at roughly $350. And I personally think that's a great price point for what you're getting out of this kit. Now, some other choices on the page, you may see that a lot do not come with the light bar included. Some options that may come with the light bar mount, however, this is going to come with the full light bar and also the wiring harness, which I personally think makes it a very inclusive kit. And then some other options are not going to have this mesh screen right at the front or the mesh grille. Some may have just the tubular construction. Now, I personally find this bull bar to be very functional and it's going to keep the price lower than some other front bumper options. And, of course, it's going to be very easy to install in comparison to those front bumpers that usually require modification. Now, with that being said, install's going to be very easy at a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You're gonna need some very basic hand tools. There's no wiring really at all. We just have to route some wires. There's no splicing or cutting or anything, completely plug and play. So it should probably take you about an hour, again, with some basic hand tools. So speaking of the install, let's jump into that now.The tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, an electric ratchet, a 19-millimeter wrench, a 19, 17, 12, and 10-millimeter socket, and a 1/4-inch drive ratchet. So the first step of this install is to take off lower wind deflector. So you are gonna need a 10-millimeter socket and ratchet or an electric ratchet, like what I'm using. So on either side, right behind the wind deflector, you're gonna have two bolts that are holding it in, the rest are gonna be on the front. So I'm gonna use that 10-millimeter socket and we can start removing them.So what we're gonna do first is remove this bottom bolt on the outside of our frame here. I'm gonna be using a 17-millimeter socket. Then we can take our passenger side bracket. Now, you wanna make sure that it's lined up with the bolt that we just took out as well as the hole in the frame up at the top. What I'm gonna do is actually reinstall that bolt and tighten it back up with that 17-millimeter socket, making sure that it's lined up at the top. Once that's on there, we can take our larger bolt and the two flat washers, lock washer, and nut, and pass that through that top hole, through the frame, and secure it down on the other side. Now, with a 19-millimeter socket and wrench, we can tighten that up. All right. Then we can repeat that on the other side. Then what we can do at this point is line up our bull bar with our mounting points as best we can, take our provided hardware, which is the bolt, lock washer, and flat washer, put that through the mounting location and thread that into the bull bar itself. So once you have both of the bolts threaded in place, what we can do is tighten that up with a 19-millimeter socket. You can do that on the other side as well.So what we can do next is wire up our light bar with our included wiring harness. So there are gonna be a couple of things to this. We're gonna have the resistor, we're going to have an inline fuse on our power lead and our negative lead to the battery. Then if we follow this back, we're gonna have a switch and then we'll have our plug to our light bar. So what I'm gonna do is take the plug to our light bar and run that down and behind the grille and kind of place the wiring harness where we need it. So I'm gonna put the lead to the battery over by the battery. You're gonna have a decent amount of wire, so you will need some zip ties to kind of clean this up. But I'm gonna run this down. Then our other wire for our switch, we can actually disconnect this because we are going to run this part through the firewall instead of the whole switch. So we'll keep this to the side for a second and you'll run it alongside the battery. There's gonna be a grommet in the firewall we can run it through. All right. So you should feel the wiring harness in the upper left-hand corner. At that grommet, there's gonna be a little cut in the carpet. Then what we can do is take our switch and plug that in. Now, because this is kind of a 12-volt switch that has little tabs on the outside, what you can do is mount this wherever you'd like. You can actually even run this into an existing switch that you already have inside your cab area. We are not going to mount this just because this particular switch would require a drill mount. May have to drill into your dash, but, again, you can mount this wherever you'd like. But the only thing about this, I just would recommend to clean up the wiring, making sure that it's out of the way of the clutch, brake, and the gas pedal. You wanna keep that out of the way. So what you can even do is kind of tuck it up here and just leave it on the dash. You can even take off this trim piece on the side. There's many ways that you could do this. I'm just gonna leave it up here and tuck it in for accessibility. So what I did was took the light bar wiring harness and put it through the front part of our grille. That's gonna come right behind our crash bar in the front, and then we can route our wiring harness from our battery over to that and plug it in. I find this a little bit easier than going completely underneath the bumper. It makes it look a little bit cleaner and it's also not gonna get hung up on anything. So after this is plugged in, we can head over to our battery to tie that into our leads. What we can do at this point is attach our leads to our battery. What I'm gonna do is attach the negative first, and I'm actually going to attach it to this ground over here on the side. As you can see, there's no real accessory bolts or nuts for the negative battery terminal. I'm just gonna use this negative ground over here. And I'm using a 10-millimeter socket for this. Then we can attach the positive lead. I'm gonna use a 12-millimeter socket, take off this accessory nut, tighten that back up. And then at this point, all you have to do is just make sure that these wires are tucked up and out of the way and away from anything hot or moving and then you'll be all set to go.So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install.
