Merideth: If you're looking for an affordable way to get some deeper exhaust notes and some better clearance for your 2018 or newer 2.0-liter JL Wrangler, this Flowmaster FlowFX Extreme Cat-Back Exhaust System will be a great option to take a look into. Now, this will also be a great addition if you don't necessarily care for the looks of the exhaust, and want better clearance when off-road compared to a larger system. Now, getting into sound, this will be a three out of five on the loudness meter, with one being completely stock and five being wake-the-neighbors loud. Now, this will add some aggressive tones to the exhaust, without adding too much volume, which will be perfect if you enjoy hearing the exhaust from time to time when you get on it, but you want a quiet and comfortable cab environment, with little to no drone. This will feature that turndown style design that will keep the exhaust minimal and out of the way, which will better your departure angles when going off road. Not to mention, this will relieve a lot of that restriction compared to the factory, which will help when it comes to small power and efficiency gains. This will be made of a 3-inch mandrel-bent 409 stainless steel material, offering a lot of airflow compared to smaller-diameter systems and good rust resistance. Now, the FlowFX muffler here is what's going to give you that aggressive but moderate tone out of the 2.0-liter, while optimizing airflow way better than the factory system. Now, this system will also be a little bit shorter, which will eliminate that over-axle tailpipe, again, giving you the clearance that you need off road, and keeping it minimal and straightforward for the JL owner looking for a no-fuss design. Now, this system will come in at roughly $400. And compared to other systems, this will keep it on the affordable side for a couple of different reasons. Now, this is gonna be minimal, reaching just to the back of the axle, and it's gonna be a 409 build. While it will offer ample clearance and great rust resistance, other choices on the page may keep the high-clearance design, but reach over the rear axle, or they may be made of a premium 304 stainless, which will up that price point. Now, I think if you're willing to compromise a little bit for an exhaust that's going to provide the clearance and sound that you need out of your JL, then this is gonna be a great pick.Install will be a lighter 2 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about two hours to get the job done with some pretty basic hand tools. At this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install and what that looks like step-by-step. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and jump into it.Man 1: The tools you'll need for this install are: a 3/8 ratchet, or impact in this case, some spray lubricant, a hanger removal tool, a long extension, a 13-millimeter ratchet wrench, a 13-millimeter socket and a 15-millimeter socket, a sharpie, a tape measure, and some safety glasses. In addition to these things, you will need some way to cut some pipe, and you're gonna need to lift the car up, so, either access to a lift or you're able to use jack stains.Hey, everyone. Today we're gonna be installing an exhaust on our Jeep Wrangler. Before we do that, go ahead and watch this video of the uninstall of the stock exhaust, and then meet me back here and we'll put the new one on.Man 2: First thing I'm gonna do is loosen this clamp up here with a 15-millimeter socket, and we're gonna work on getting this muffler out. So, we're gonna support our muffler with a pole jack, and then we're gonna remove our hangers on both sides. You're gonna have a hanger over here at the top, hanger over there. There's gonna be two bolts in it, and we're gonna use a 13-millimeter wrench and socket to get those out. So, the first thing we're gonna do is remove this side bolt here. This bolt is easily accessed with a 13-millimeter wrench. You can also use a socket from up above the sway bar. After that, above that bolt, and a little bit further towards the back of the Jeep, you're gonna have a 13-millimeter bolt up in there. So, we're gonna take a 13-millimeter socket on an extension, pull that bolt out, and then we'll do the same thing on the other side. So, at this point in time, you're gonna hold your muffler up, remove your pole jack, get Merideth from XT to take it away for you. And we're just gonna wiggle this thing back and off.So, next we're gonna go up to the end of our Y-pipe, next to our transfer case. You're gonna have a V-band clamp. We're gonna use a 13-millimeter socket to loosen that up. Next we're gonna follow our exhaust back to our next hanger, by our axle, and then we're gonna remove that from the rubber bushing. When you get the hanger off, you can remove the rest of your system.Man 1: So, now that we have the stock exhaust off the Jeep, we're looking at the straight segment of the new exhaust. Now, the one we're putting this on is a two-door and not a four-door. Now, this kit comes ready to be installed on a four-door or a two-door, and if you're gonna have a two door, you're gonna need to trim this down, so we're gonna have to make a cut. Now, I'm gonna tell you right now, I already measured, the amount we need to cut off is 22 inches from the rear segment, before it would connect to the resonator. So, I'm gonna measure 22 inches, and I'm just taking a sharpie. And I'm gonna make a nice, clear mark at a 22-inch line, right there. And now that we have that measured out and marked, we're ready to head over to the saw, and we're gonna cut it. But before we do that, make sure you wear your safety glasses. I know these look like safety glasses, but they're not. I'm gonna swap them out for something much more stylish. Let's head to the saw.Now that we've got that cut, we're gonna steal a couple things off of the old exhaust, and assemble this on the floor before we put it in the car. The thing we need to steal from the original exhaust is this circle clamp here at the end. Now, this guy, once you have this loosened, should pop off pretty easily. I'm just spreading apart the sides, and pulling straight out. So, we've got that. That's a 13-millimeter nut on there. We're gonna tighten that down when we have it on the car later, but first I'm gonna take the piece that we already just cut, slip it over there, just all the way across. Like I said, you spread the ends. We're just gonna leave it there at the throat of that. Now we're gonna connect these two together. There is a band clamp that's included in the kit. That's a 15-millimeter nut to tighten that down. What we're gonna do is just slide them into each other. Makes it a little bit easier to hold when on your lap, and you can put it against yourself, get some pressure that way. Now, if you have the exhaust turned down the way it needs to go, down, facing you like this, this is going to be up, so that arch is going higher than you. So, this is a pretty tight squeeze. Might take a little bit of playing with it, some elbow grease, to get it in. Tight fit is good though.Spinning it sometimes helps, just like that. We're gonna feed that in there, just like that. Get it about straight. Just making sure that that is facing up and not angling to the side. And then, we can tighten down this band clamp. Before I do that, I'm gonna spin it, so that I can access it in the car. See, if I had it like this, it'll be really tough when the exhaust is hanging like this to get to that nut. So I'm gonna spin it the other way, do it from the bottom, so that if you ever need to take it apart on the car, you can get to it. So, to tighten that, I just have...I have my 15-mill socket and my 3/8 impact, and I'm just gonna tighten this down. Nice and tight. Now we're good to put our new exhaust on the car.So, I'm here under the car. I just need to move it back under this crossbar here, hold it into place. I'm gonna rest that ball socket where it needs to be. Make sure your clamp doesn't fall off. Just like that....I'm gonna do is line that post, that hanger post, up with the hanger there, and just spin it, so it starts to feed through. Might take a little bit of wiggling. Just like that. Okay. Now I have that pushed up to that joint there. I'm gonna tighten that clamp down. But before I do that, I'm clocking the exhaust so that it doesn't hit our transmission pan cover or the frame rail here. It's gonna sit about there. Now I just need to slide that clamp over the joint, and tighten that down. Once we have that lined up and we're ready to tighten it down, I'm using my 13-millimeter socket on my 3/8 impact. [inaudible 00:11:32] place to put my hand. And I'm just going to tighten that down. Get it somewhat snug, so it stays there. But I can still adjust it, fine-tune where my exhaust is sitting, and tighten it down. Just like that. And that's nice and secure, and we've got a new exhaust installed on our Wrangler. That was the Flowmaster FlowFX Extreme Cat-Back Exhaust for the 2018 and newer 2.0-Liter Jeep Wrangler JL.
