Full Bar Rack vs Two Bar Rack

The best roof rack for you depends on what you plan on carrying. Long items like surfboards or kayaks fit perfectly on two bar racks. Two bar racks are as they sound; two bars running across the roof of your Jeep. These don’t support as much weight as a full rack, so bear that in mind if you want the rack to serve double duty. Full racks are mounted to your Jeep’s body, adding much needed rigidity for those looking to store enough away to take the family camping. With a two bar rack you’re looking at 100 lbs of storage or less whereas the full racks support upwards of 300 lbs.

Cargo Baskets and Bike Carriers

In addition to roof racks, don’t forget about cargo baskets and bike carriers. Cargo baskets sit on top of your full roof rack, and the biggest advantage is the lip along the sides. You can store things like duffel bags on top of your Jeep without worrying about it falling off. However, we always recommend using tied downs regardless of the size of your cargo. The next best place for a cargo basket is your rear hitch, but you can also use a bike rack instead. The best Jeep bike racks are ones that don’t interfere with your spare tire.
