Types of Available Jeep Light Bars

The light bar is an iconic piece of off-roading equipment. Trucks and Jeeps all over sport light bars across the top of their windshields. But which light bar is best for your Jeep? A 50 inch light bar is the classic option to span the length of your windshield. Usually a flood/spot light combo, light bars are designed to either cast a broad but short beam pattern in flood mode, and in spot mode they cast a long narrow beam. There are slim models as well as curved models, but the biggest difference between multiple light bars will be their length and the number of LEDs they house. Naturally the more LEDs a bar has the more light emitted, but also the power it needs to operate. Most manufacturers will have rating posted on their lights bars in lumens and color temperature, so you know what you’re getting into before you buy.

Where to Mount Your Light Bar?

The most obvious place is a windshield mount. 50 inch light bars provide a substantial amount of coverage when navigating trails at night, but there are other places for more specialized purposes. Bumper mounted light bars or pods are usually a fog light style, designed to illuminate the ground along the ground in front of your Jeep. These are perfect for spotting obstacles a higher mounted spread bar might miss. A light above your spare tire can assist in times of emergency, whether for winching or for actually needing the spare. You can also mount dedicated spotlights at the bottom windshield hinge. These tend to have levers on them so you can reach and operate one from your driver’s seat.
