Reasons to have an Air Compressor in Your Jeep

While portable air compressors don’t have the power that standard shop units do, they have their uses. As far as off-roading Jeeps are concerned, the primary use of a portable air compressor is to air tires back up after spending some time on the trail. The more brutal trails require as much grip as possible, so you might end up down at five pounds of pressure in your tires. Needless to say, trying to ride on pavement with only 5 psi isn’t going to end well. The best Jeep air compressors can handle reinflating a 35-inch tire. There are two power sources for compressors: the battery and the 12 outlet in the dash. The more powerful compressors will hook up directly to the battery.

Where to Mount Your Air Compressor

Depending on the style compressor, you can mount it in multiple places in your Jeep. One option that keeps it tucked away but within reach is an under seat mount. This bracket mounts between the seat frame and the seat itself providing a secure location for your compressor. This spot is good for compressors powered by the 12-volt socket. A more convenient place for battery powered compressors are under hood mounts. Something to consider with these, however, is the excess heat coming off your engine may reduce the life of your compressor. A simpler mounting location is a clamp on mount to the existing roll bar. It’s a more flexible location, but not necessarily the best. Be sure to mount your compressor in the most convenient location for you.
