Hey, guys. So today, I'm here with the Barricade Trail Force HD Front Bumper with the 9,500-pound synthetic Winch Combo, fitting all 2018 JL Wranglers. So this is gonna be a great choice to take a look at if you're looking for a heavy-duty front bumper that's gonna offer you a ton of different benefits like recovery points, the option to switch over your factory fog lights, obviously, some heavy-duty front end protection and some grille protection, and a winch plate for your new winch. You're also getting a 9,500-pound winch with a synthetic line. It's gonna come with everything that you need to install it. It's even gonna come with a cover so when you're not using your winch, you can maintenance it and keep it nice and clean. So this is gonna cost you roughly $750. And I personally think that that's a great price point for these two items. Now, bumpers and winches can range all over the board between $350 all the way up to $1,200. So getting these two together in a one-stop shop for $750, I think it's right on the money. Now, compared to other options on the combo page, this is gonna be a less expensive option. It's not gonna be your most affordable option because of the synthetic line that you will have to pay a little bit of a premium for. However, this is gonna be very affordable because of the simplistic design of the bumper. Now, other options that may go up in price, those are usually gonna be your full-width options. You're gonna have a lot of metal on the front. You're gonna have some tire protection. But, with this, you're gonna have some more simplicity and I do like that about this bumper because it gets the job done and it still offers that form. So if you were looking for a more budget-friendly option than this one, there are also those options available on the page. However, you will be sacrificing the synthetic line and moving over to a steel cable line. However, it's gonna get the job done. But, personally, I think this is a great setup. It looks great on the front of our JL and it offers that form but also offers that function. And not to mention, it comes with a three-year limited warranty to keep a peace of mind in your investment. So install is gonna be a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, nothing you can't tackle in about two hours in your driveway with some basic hand tools. So speaking of the install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, a 3/8-inch drive ratchet, a quarter-inch drive ratchet, a couple of extensions, a 17-millimeter open-ended wrench, a 7-millimeter open-ended wrench, a flathead screwdriver, an 18-millimeter deep socket, a 16, 14 and 10-millimeter shallow socket, an 8-millimeter deep socket, a 7-millimeter shallow socket, a 16-millimeter swivel socket, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a pair of pliers. So the first step in removing our bumper is to remove the pop clips that are holding the upper splash guard in place. I'm just using a flathead screwdriver to do that. You can also use a trim removal tool. So you're gonna have two on top that go into the frame rail. Now, after all of those are out, we can remove our splash guard. So moving on to the bottom splash guard, we're first gonna remove the two bolts that are holding it on either side with an 8-millimeter deep socket. So now, we have to remove the pop clips that are holding in the front of our bottom splash guard. I'm gonna be using either a trim removal tool or a flathead screwdriver, whichever is easiest. I know that they do differ along the way because of the spacing. But this one's easy to access with a trim removal tool. So now, we're gonna remove the back panel on either side of the bumper. You're gonna use a flathead screwdriver to get the pop clips out that are holding it in. So with a 16-millimeter socket, we're next gonna remove our bottom skid plate here. It's just the two bolts on the outer side. This is gonna slide up. So now, you can use an 18-millimeter deep socket and a ratchet, or an impact wrench if you can squeeze it in here, to remove the nuts that are holding on our bumper studs. There's gonna be eight in total, four on each frame horn. So we are on the outer driver side right now, we're just gonna loosen those. So after all the bolts are out, the last thing that we need to do is unplug the main harness for our two fog lights. So we're just going to unclip that. So, now we can remove our bumper. So now, that we have our factory bumper off and taken apart, sitting it by this Barricade front bumper, you can tell that the new front bumper is gonna offer you form as well as function. So starting off with the width, this is gonna be a mid-width front bumper so it's gonna be a little bit shorter than your factory standard or full-width. But it's gonna have angled up sides so it's gonna help you out with better approach angles off-road, a little bit more clearance for those tighter angles while you're crawling on the trail. Now, it also is gonna be a lot more durable, made of a 5/32-inch plated steel. It's gonna have a 2-inch bull bar up top. This is gonna be able to take a hit a lot better than that factory plastic would and it's just gonna look a lot nicer, overall. So it is gonna have a two-stage black texture powder coat finish on it. That's gonna resist any rust or corrosion on that metal underneath there. It's going to resist any surface damage so you're not gonna be able to scratch this up very easily while you're out on the trail. And it's gonna assist you in that off-road and aggressive look that you may be looking for out of a front bumper. Now, this is also gonna offer you a number of different benefits that your stock setup is unable to give you. First off, you have this grille protection. With your stock front bumper, you're not getting any of that. You do have this nice bull bar that comes pretty high up to protect your grille from any front-end impact. On top of that, you get two accessory, mounting points so you can mount up any additional lighting to, and speaking of lighting, you're able to swap over your factory fog lights onto this bumper, which I think is a pretty nice touch. Now, speaking of recovery, this is gonna come with two welded D-ring mounts. It's gonna come with the D-rings and those are a lot more efficient, as well as a lot safer than your factory tow hooks. So I do really like this kind of setup on an aftermarket front bumper and it is pretty standard so it's nice to see that here. Speaking of recovery, you also do get a winch plate with this. It's a top-mounted winch plate. You get a Fairlead cover and this combo also comes with a winch that I'll talk about in just a minute. However, since the JL does not come with a winch out of the factory, I can't do a compare there. But, this is gonna be able to hold up to a 12,000-pound winch if you were looking to upgrade in the future. Now, obviously, this has the form and the function. It's a nice bumper so let's go see how it fits. So before we can install our bumper on our Wrangler, we do have to swap over our factory fog lights. Now you're gonna need a 7-millimeter wrench as well as a Phillips head screwdriver in order to do this. So make sure that they are oriented in the correct way. So we're gonna take our provided hardware, which is our small Philips head bolt and our 7-millimeter nut. We're gonna go ahead and thread that on. So now, we're ready to mount up our bumper. So you will have studs that you'll be able to line up. So now, once your bumper is mounted on, it should stay in place and we can go grab our hardware as well as an 18-millimeter deep socket and a ratchet to secure all the hardware down.So what we're gonna do now is attach our hardware. So grab two flat washers, we're gonna attach those first. Then you can grab two lock washers. This is gonna push up against the nut and prevent it from vibrating off. Then you're gonna grab your nut and thread that on. And we're gonna do the same thing for the other side and the other side of this frame rail as well. Now, we're not gonna tighten anything down just yet. We wanna make sure that everything is on. We can move to the innermost bolts. So for the bottom stud, it's gonna be the same process, flat washer, lock washer, and, nut. However, on the innermost bolts, the top portion is just gonna be a hole and we're gonna take a bolt and thread that in. Now, it's gonna go flat washer, lock washer, and, nut as well. We're gonna thread that into the bumper. We're gonna do the same thing on the other side as well. So now we can use our 18-millimeter deep socket in order to tighten these down. So after all of our bolts are tightened down, while we're already down here, we can attach our fog light wiring harness. So I'm just taking the driver side and putting that over the frame rail.So we're just gonna let that hang there for a second. Now, we're gonna take our passenger side, plug that into the main harness, and plug our fog light into our fog light right here. So what I'm gonna do is pass our other side of the fog light over the frame rail and we can plug it in. Now, once that's clicked in, we can actually take some of these pop clips and clean it up, and insert them in the holes on the frame. Now, they will be on the inside, most likely and that's gonna help clean up the wiring, which is really nice. So our next step before we bolt up our winch is gonna be to bolt up our Fairlead. This is gonna be a nice billet aluminum. It's gonna look really nice on the front of your bumper. So we're gonna use the provided hardware that came with our winch and bolt that up. And you're gonna be using a flat washer, and a lock washer, and then the nut, just like the back of our bumper there. Snug that up. We'll tighten that down in just a second. Let's get our second bolt in. So once that's in, we can do that flat washer again, and then the lock washer, then the nut. So we can go ahead and take a 16-millimeter socket and a 17-millimeter wrench and tighten those down. So after we have our bumper secured down, now we can move on to assembling our winch. We don't really have much to assemble on the table, we just have to attach our solenoid. But I did wanna tell you guys a little bit about this winch. So this is gonna be a 9,500-pound pulling capacity, 5.5 horsepower, and it's gonna be a 12-volt winch with a synthetic rope. Now, the rule of thumb, usually, when choosing a pulling capacity for a winch is to get a pulling capacity that is one and a half times the gross weight of your Wrangler. So this 9,500-pound pulling capacity is perfect for the armored two-door or anything less, or a moderately armored four-door, I would say. So moving on to your line, this is gonna be a synthetic rope, like I mentioned before, and I personally like a synthetic rope over a steel cable line for a couple of different reasons. Now, it is gonna require a little bit more maintenance. You are gonna have to take care of it. However, this is a lot easier to handle. You're not having to drag a heavy line up a hill when you need to winch something and it's a lot safer. So this is not gonna store energy under load. If it does snap, it's just gonna fall to the ground. However, with a steel cable line, it will lash back since it does have that energy. So if you are looking into a steel cable for a budget-friendly option, I would definitely get a damper with this. However, this kind of line is something that I would go with personally, just because of the safety aspect. Now, like I said, you do have to maintenance this a little bit more. But this does come with a cover in the package so you are safe there. Now, you will need a 14-millimeter socket and a ratchet, as well as a Phillips head screwdriver to go ahead and attach our solenoid, so let's do that now. So you're gonna have three short leads as well as two long leads. This is gonna connect to your battery as well as the negative terminal or the negative lead that's gonna connect to your battery. So we're just gonna put this aside for a second. So we are going to mount this up top. And you will have two Phillips head screws on the back that you just have to tighten down so it'll stay in place. It'll click in, then you just have to tighten them down. We can take our Phillips head screwdriver and just tighten those down. So after those are tight and our solenoid is safe and secure, now we can take off these top nuts, remove one of the flat washers, and go ahead and start connecting our terminals. So I'm gonna start with our positive just because that was the first one that I reached. We're gonna attach that, attach our flat washer, and then resecure our nut. Now, we can grab our negative. And they do come with little covers that I do like that protect the terminals from any rust or corrosion. Then we can attach our last yellow one. This is basically our actuating terminal. Now, we can go ahead and tighten those down. I'm not gonna tighten them down too much but we're gonna take a 14-millimeter socket and just snug them up. You don't wanna overtighten because it can destroy the terminal so be mindful. All right, so once those top terminals are finished, we can move on to the bottom one. So you will have a small wire here, this is gonna be your negative. You're also gonna connect this to the bottom as well as the one for your battery. You can also connect it to a bare metal spot on your bumper, on your Jeep, wherever you like. It just needs to be grounded. Then we can attach our flat washer, lock washer, and lastly, our nut, and tighten that down with the same 14-millimeter or ratchet and socket. After that's on there, we're ready to move to our Wrangler and attach our Fairlead. So we're gonna bolt up our winch. But first, we have to insert our square nuts in the inserts here. This is how we're going to secure our winch down to the winch plate. They're gonna go in all four corners. So making sure your battery leads are out of the way, we're gonna go ahead and place that down. We're going to try to grab our line and pull it through our Fairlead and we're gonna do our best job to line this up. Now, the leads are gonna hit your grille, that's okay. All right, and then we're going to do our best to tuck our battery leads down and out of the way. We're gonna get our winch secured and then we can open our hood and move on to that battery. Now, we can head underneath our bumper and secure our winch down. Now, we're gonna take our bolt, flat washer, and lock washer, and tighten those down into our winch. Now, we can thread in the other two and then tighten it down. So after all four are threaded in, we can tighten those down with a 16-millimeter swivel socket. So the reason why I'm using a swivel socket is just because of this lip here. You won't necessarily need it. It just makes it a little bit easier. I'm also using an extension just to clear my ratchet. So what we're gonna do now is attach our hook. We're gonna take out our pin, attach it to our line, then we can reinstall our pin. Once the pin's through, we can take a pair of pliers and bend that back, just so it does not fall out. After that's on there, we can hook it to our D-ring. Now, we can go ahead and head inside our engine bay. Now, we're gonna pull our leads up from this corner here. You're gonna grab one of your leads and we'll go inside the inner fender liner. You'll be able to seat it right down here. So now, we're gonna connect them to your battery terminal. So you're gonna need a 10-millimeter socket, I'm also using an extension to make it a little bit easier and a quarter-inch drive ratchet. I'm gonna do the positive first. We're gonna remove this accessory nut over here on the far end, then you can attach your lead. It's gonna be just the right length. Then we can put our cover back on, move over to our negative terminal. And do the same thing with the accessory nut here, touch our lead. Once that's connected, then you're all set to go. So when you're ready to winch, you can just pop off this rubber cover on your solenoid, take your remote control, it will have a little pin to make sure that it's lined up correctly, we can go ahead and plug that in. You can unhook your line, you can engage your clutch, and you can hit out and if you have to spool it in... So now, if you're not using your winch right away, we can go ahead and put your cover on. It's gonna be a nice little, nylon cover. You're gonna have a drawstring on the side here. Make sure it doesn't come off. So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install.
